Sarah Moss, b about 1838 Carnesville, GA m 31 Jul 1864 Elisha Cheek. She had three children by Elisha: James R Cheek, Elizabeth Cheek and William M. Cheek. Elisha abandoned the family while they were living in White County TN. Between Jun 1880 and Nov 1880 Sarah moved her family to Denison TX. We have not picked up her trail since Nov 1880. James R Cheek was found to be living in Galveston, and Elizabeth joined him a year or two later before 1897. I have information that a Sarah Ann Cheek is listed in the Index of Grapevine History Book on page 147. I am trying to find some information as to listings on the Tax List for 1864. I have just come across this listing "Byas, Robert heirs of paid by L.A. Byes". This obviously refers to the desceased Robert Byas. My questions are, was this a list made of real property owners in the county? Would this indicate that Robert did own property in the county? Would this indicate that the estate was in the process of being settled? Since the Court House burned in 1876 is there any other place that an estate settlement may be recorded?
