Forwarding this to the list. Patsy's email address did not exactly match the address under which she is subscribed. I have added this new address variation to the list so she should now be able to post directly. - Rob Yoder, listowner ============================================================ Subject: {not a subscriber} Re: [TXTARRAN-L] Old Book Date: Fri, 16 Jul 1999 08:40:04 -0700 (PDT) From: Patsy Knight <pknight@star-telegram.com> Organization: The Knights To: bentley@hawkpci.net CC: TXTARRAN-L@rootsweb.com References: 1 I have been to the bookstore in Archer City, and it is wonderful! It is owned by Larry McMurtrey. He bought several buildings in "downtown" Archer and has buyers all over the US. He has many out of print and rare books in addition to all the usual (and unusual) books. I spent hours just looking. You are on the honor system....if you find something you walk across the street to the main store and pay for it. I think that the name might be Booked Up....he changed the name so I am not sure. It certainly is the only one there! I think the bookstore to which you refer is owned by Larry McMurtry, author of The Last Picture Show, Lonesome Dove, etc. It is probably on the web. eb.
There is a book store in Archer City TX that has thousands of OLD books. You might check with them. Archer City is near Wichita Falls. I can not think of the name of the store, but you could easily get it. There was a great OLD book store here in Ft. Worth, and the guy in Archer City bought him out. Good Luck Bill Bentley
Hi List-- I have learned that the Fort Worth Library has a book that contains a biography for my Charles H. McAlister on pg. 34. The book is: A History of the State of Oklahoma printed in 1909 and was written by Luther B. Hill. Apparently this is the only place I can find that has this book. I would like to ask if there is some kind soul who will look this up for me and either email the contents of the bio. or make a copy. I will be happy to reimburse anyone for their time and expenses--and would be very grateful. Charles H. McAlister is a ggreat uncle of mine and I have been looking for a bio. for him for years. Thank you all for considering my long-winded post@ :o) Joan Achille
Recently discovered that Dailey R. FOUST was appointed Postmaster of Johnson Station, Tarrant County, Texas on 30 November 1897. According to the Tarrant County GenWeb pages, there is an Edam FOUST buried in the Johnson Station Cemetery. I believe this Dailey R. FOUST is the brother to my great grandfather, John Alexander FOUST. Dailey would have been born in Rhea County, Tennessee about 1863 to Philip Thompson FOUST and Nancy Ann McPHERSON. This is the first information I've found on him since he appeared in the 1880 Rhea County Census with this parents at age 17. If you have any information on this line, please contact me. Also, if anyone has a 1900 Tarrant County Census extract available, I would very much appreciate a look up. Thank you all for your time and assistance. Lila Ashear Manchester, Connecticut
Have you visited the Tarrant County GenWeb page lately? There have been a number of new additions in the past 60 days. Have you tried out the new search engine yet? http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/ -- - Rob Yoder E-Mail - agsa@fwst.com

Hi, I'm new to this and it's so overwhelming. My mother, Patsy Ruth Barrett, was born on August 13, 1933, in Ft. Worth, Tarrant County. On her birth certificate, her mother's name, Odessa Davis, and her father, William James Barrett. Odessa's mother was Bertha Davis, and we have no other info on the Davis part of the family. We do know that at some point Bertha remarried to a McGill and either her husband had two children from his previous marriage, or they had two children. Unique names of Juanita and Ivanora, we don't know if they are McGills or Davis'. My mother is interested in finding some family roots and I'm helping her because I've got access to the Internet. I guess one of my first questions is back in 1933, did a woman have to be married to list the name of the father of a child, or could she just put a name down? I sure would appreciate any or all assistance possible. I live in South Carolina and I'm disabled so I can't get there. Sincerely, Karen Gravley

Hi List I am new to the list. I just found that my great grandparents George Curtis and his wife Mary Ann moved to Fort Worth, Texas about 1882-1890. They married in England in 1879, moved to Michigan the same year. They had two children while living in Michigan. They moved to Fort Worth until about 1890 where they had two more children Fred Curtis b. 1882 and Joseph Curtis b. 1886. They then moved back to Michigan where they lived out the rest of their days. I don't know why they went to Texas for that period of time. Could someone fill me in on the Fort Worth history during this time period? Tamara, I'd check the Confederate Veteran Magazine Index first. The better genealogical libraries should have a set. Regards, Jim Wheat
Hi, Tamara .... Regarding your post, you may find information on the BEDFORD FORREST CAMP and possible members by calling the HQ of the SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS at: 1 - (800) MY SOUTH I have been a member of the SCV for many years. They publish a super magazine called CONFEDERATE VETERAN, and have since 1883 when they were called the UNITED CONFEDERATE VETERANS (UCV) which you may have seen the initials on many Confederate graves. You may find past copies or reprints of the CONFEDERATE VETERAN in fine libraries. Look for the year that your John Griffin passed, and locate that year in the magazine. Confederate Veterans published the death of their comrades in the magazine which identified his exact regiment, such as Co. "L", 10th SC Reg'mt. Good luck and don't give up!
