Ken Hopkins from the Fort Worth Public Library recently left the following message on the guestbook of the Fort Worth Genealogical Society. Looks like we need to get our library trips taken care of right away. "Just wanted to let you know that from August 30th to September 16th, the Fort Worth Public Library will be moving books and furniture. During that time, the Genealogy section may be closed a day or two, so researchers should call ahead to make certain. The grand opening of the new entrance will be October 22th." http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/ - Tarrant County, Texas GenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~txfwgs/ - Fort Worth Genealogical Society
This message is for Jan Turner that requested a lookup from the Fort Worth Books. I sent you a reply but it came back as undeliverable. You forgot to give me a name to lookup in Grapevine. These books have information on several of the outlying areas so it is possible your ancestors are in there somewhere. Let me know if I can help. Marile Hackney<marilejh@lcc.net>
I need an Obit Lookup Please His name is Floyd Canfield b 1-10-1905 d 10-1975 in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. or if you can find what cemetery that he is buried He is my great uncle and maybe the obit information will be able to help me locate where other relatives may have been at that time. Thank you Pam Henson phenson@pdq.net

Dear Daniel, About Susan Catherine Anderson nee Davis being buried in Grapevine Cemetery. I am told by a relative that it is unmarked in there. There may be some other Davis' she is next to otherwise I can't see her husband who lived in Wise CO. even remarried and stayed there till 1900 or so, coming over to Tarrant to bury her. Her fathers name was "supposedly" Harley Davis, and her mother Isue Davis nee Monoke. Maybe some of Hiram Anderson's relatives are there???? Heck, I don't know why she'd be there. I need to find some kind of cemetery official or office or ????. There are some books I see listed on the Tarrant site that have info from there but that just may be someone who went there and wrote what they saw or ??? I'd be willing to bet that a Davis or Anderson had an extra plot that they used. If she is in an unmarked, I'd like to contact all her descendants about buying a stone, there were at least 100 at the reunion 2 weeks ago in OK that at just about 5 bucks each we could get one. I posted a Davis / Anderson cemetery question last night. I've gotten a lot of wonderful responses with the same basic question. From what I understand, it is Grapevine Cemetery in Grapevine, Texas, on North Dooley Street northwest of Wildwood Lane. Thanks, Roy
Do you have a name for the cemetary? There are several in Grapevine. It's only up the road from me; I wouldn't mind taking a look if I knew where I was going. > -----Original Message----- > From: Roy Edward Brown, Jr., D.C. I am looking for any information on Dr. Michael Lambkin Woods (often simply M. L. Woods) (b. 1807 TN d. 1887 Ft. Worth, TX), his 1st wife Sarah May Preston (b. 1811 ? d. 1844 prob. Harrison Co., TX) or their children, esp. James Preston Woods (b. 1844 prob. Harrison Co., TX, d. 1899 Ft. Worth, TX). I am uncertain when the family came to Harrison Co., TX, but they seem to have removed to Tarrant Co., TX by 1854. Any information on this family or its ancestors would be greatly appreciated. -- ******************************************************** James P. While cleaning out an old trunk, I found an interesting article on Black Seminoles taken from a Smithsonian magazine that I had saved. Date and issue unknown. The Title is: Against all odds, Black Seminole won their freedom by Scott Thybony. Subtitle reads From Florida to Texas, 19th-century black Indians used perseverance, courage and skill as weapons in a battle against slavery. "Few soldiers or government officials had a clear understanding of the black Indians. Confusion over whether they were a free people or slaves remained a source of conflict until slavery itself was abolished. A Black Seminole village contained both freemen and those whom the Indians claimed as slaves. Many of the Seminole blacks were former slaves from plantations in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina..." Names in Article: Willie WARRIOR Lily Mae DIMERY Louis DIMERY John SHIELDS John WARD Lt. John BULLIS Lee Roy YOUNG, Jr Benjamin JULY John JULY Thomas S. JESUP John HORSE Becky SIMMONS Miss Charles Emily WILSON Gertrude VASQUEZ Sampson JULY Fay JULY William SHIELDS Article consists of ten pages, and I will copy & give to anyone interested. Hi I live in Arlington, I will do Arlington Library lookups for anyone in the evening. If you want I can take still pictures of a grave site but I would need to know which cemetery and where the grave is located. I work so can't do anything with government lookups. Pat
If your offer still goes, I'm interested in James Thomas Davis who died in the 1960's I think. I've been searching for a cousin, Malvin Howard, for several months and can't find him anywhere--not even on Social Security lists. Last heard from was in 1986 in Fort Worth. Does anyone know anything about him? where he might be? This began with a family tree, but what has happened is more important than that. He is probably about 88-90 years old. Please help if you know him or know about him and/or his family.
