    3. I am trying to find an obituary on my uncle who I beleive died in Arlington, TX on Jan 30, 1997. He was in a nursing home there (don't know which one). I lost contact with him after mom died & when I tried to call, the phone was disconnected. Found out from the SS Death Index that he had died. His last known address was in Tahlequah, OK so I went there to try to find out about him, but was told that his wife had taken him to TX where her son lived. Don't know the son's name. Her name is Lois Busby. My uncle was Argle Paul Busby. I would be forever grateful if someone could lookup the obituary for me. I know Uncle Argle had at least one daughter living (the last I knew she was in Tulsa, but I don't know her married name), & I would like to find her. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!! 3. >Hi Folks, > >How does one get a 1972 Tarrant County, TX obituary? This is a great question and if someone on the lists has an idea, I'd like to hear it too! My suggestion would be to contact the Ft Worth Public Library. http://198.215.16.8:443/fortworth/fwpl/ I looked around their site and they have a lot of information "including a phone number for the genealogy department". Any other ideas? Jean

    2. Rob & Heather Williams
    3. Hi Folks, How does one get a 1972 Tarrant County, TX obituary? I live in Oregon and have no way to go there in person and do it myself. I wrote (emailed) the big newspaper there, but they never wrote me back. A few people have promised they would look it up for me, but they never got back to me either. I'm pretty discouraged about it, because I know that I could do it in short order if I was there. I have no idea which funeral home to write to either. Isn't there anyone out there who lives in that area who could help me? Here is my data off of the Social Security Death Index: Frances WILLIAMS Born 6 Sept 1876 Died May 1972 Residence Zip Code: 76104 Ft Worth, Tarrant, TX SSN 465-88-3206 Issued 1966 in TX Except for ordering a death certificate, this obituary is practically the only key I might have to tell me something about her parents and where they were born. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Take care, Robert -- \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ------- oOOo-(_)-oOOo--------------- Robert L. 3. Jean, Thank you for the answer to my question re the early marriage records. I was guilty of doing the very thing that has irritated me in the past as a NM county sponsor and list manager. I asked before taking the time to research the question myself. But maybe my question and your reply will serve a purpose and acquaint us all with the Tarrant County page and the wonderful resources to be found there. Thanks! For information see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/source/research.htm#history JUST a REMINDER - If you haven't looked at the Tarrant Co. Research Page very carefully - you may be missing some good information about what is available in Tarrant Co.....where it is.......who to contact.......etc. If an item is highlighted (a link) - there is more information about it. BTW the link on that page for the Ft Worth Gen. Soc will take you to their site. Happy Hunting, Jean

    3. Does anyone have information on the original marriage licenses for the period including 1878? Somewhere I believe I read, or heard, that they had been turned over to a Genealogical Society in Fort Worth. I have a copy of the license for my ancestor, Thomas Kirkpatrick married to Mary L. King on November 7, 1878. This is recorded in the first surviving marriage book in Fort Worth. I have found that the family did not normally pick up the original copies and I would, of course, love to have it if possible. If anyone knows who I could contact, or any general information about the situation, please contact me privately, or through the list. Thank you for any assistance, Joyce Locke jglocke@yucca.net The Gore Family Connection http://www.yucca.net/jglocke/

    3. Does anyone have the new HISTORY OF MANSFIELD book? Would love to know if the KEENE's appear in the index. If so I will order one. But $70. is steep for a book, unseen. While you've heard the SANSONI/SONTER family were married in Ft. Worth. She, being widowed in 1899, lived in Ft. Worth with her son Fredrick b. 1892 until her death in 1925. Although she is evidently not buried there. Meantime there was a KEENE family that moved to Streetman about 1903 and lived on a farm there until 1935. Marion Washington Keene and Alice India Reno. They had eight children (and two from previous marriages). Many of whom lived and married in Ft. Worth around the turn of the century. Vernon LeRoy Pearce Eula Lee Keene Marion Guy Keene m. Gertrude Hattie Mae Keene b.1887 d. 1927 William Lewis Keene d. 1968 Samuel Fredrick Keene m.Dora Margaret Elizabeth Keene m.A.L. Brown, then Edwin Clayton 1912 Essie Viola Keene m. Fredrick Sansoni 1912 Lura Beatrice Keene m. John Austin Jones m.1918 Raymond Keene m. Irene Jones and lived in Mansfield. When his wife died in 1935 Marion Washington Keene moved to Kinnadale and Grapevine briefly, then settled in Mansfield. He married Josie Beasley Lewis in 1943, his third wife. She is buried in Mansfield Cemetary. He died in Mansfield in 1956 and is buried in the Birdston Cemetary in Streetman, as is the mother of his children. Would love to learn more about the history and area of Fort Worth and Mansfield and Streetman. Any recommended reading? Know very little of this period. Any information is appreciated. Are there any tips you can share about searching in this area?

    1. TARRANT COUNTY MARRIAGE
    2. greg hoffman
    3. I have a frustrating problem in Ft. Worth. Was looking for the marriage of my grGrandparents. William Anthony Sansoni and Lucille E. Sonter. They were listed in a book at tthe Texas State Library, Vol.II of Tarrant County Marriage Records by the Fort Worth Genealogical Society as William A. Sansom and Lucille E. Sonter May 6, 1888. Good so far. I sent for the record at the County Clerks office and they find no record. Saying that even if the marriage was performed there the license (or whatever) was not purchased there. The Sansoni's did live in Ft. Worth from 1892 on. What year was St. Andrews church built? Know Lucille sang in the choir there and her son Fred was an alter boy. Does anyone have handy access to an 1890 census index? My family history center did not have one. Am certainly open to and begging for any input or suggestions or pointers. Thanks. Every few days I see a message to "subscribe" from a subscriber who thinks they may have been dropped from the list since they don't remember the last message they received from the list. (I'm guessing on the reason for the re - submission). I am just as likely as you to just read and never post a message to the mail lists I subscribe to. This list MIGHT be of more help to YOU if you posted your research interests. Some of us do not have specific queries, right now.......but we could just tell which family and the time period we are interested in. Connections don't happen unless we put something out there so others can see us. That Said....I'm going to follow my advise and post a message latter today about my Tarrant Co. Ancestors! I hope each of you will TOO!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- And for the regular update? Well, during the past 2 weeks we've had 534 hits on the main pages, 134 on the queries page resulting in 21 new queries online, The surname page received a total of 228 hits - still a very popular resource. We have had changes in our look up volunteers. We recently added a couple of Cemeteries. The combined total of subscribers to this list and the digest version of this list is over 100 people now. 3. I have a great great grandfather by the name of E. C. MARTIN who was born about 1830 S.C./GA? I found him in the 1860 census and shows his father and mother were born in S. C. I do not know what county. He first married Martha Rogers? about 1860 in Winnfield, Winn, LA. They moved to Arkansas about 1870 and Martha died? about 1873?. He was found in the 1880 census with his 6 children (5 girls, 1 boy) in Grayson, Co., Texas. He later moved to Red River Co., Texas. This is where he married his second wife Jane Winnsworth about 1881. His daughter Mary Alice MARTIN born 1863 in Louisanna, married 1882 in Annona, Red River, Co., Texas to Yancy King David HALL born in Alabama about 1844. I know that Mary and Yancy lived in Annona till 1900 later moved around the Brownwood, Texas area. My grandmother Angie Bell HALL DAY CLARK married Robert Franklin DAY in Brownwood in 1905. After Yancy died in Eastland Co., Texas, Mary moved to Fort Worth around 1935. She lived on Lorriane Steet till she died in 1949. If anyone has a connection to this family PLEASE contact me. 2. Jean Jones
    3. This showed up in my mail and I thought it important enough to forward it to you. It is better to be safe than sorry. Jean ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- U.S. News and World Report News You Can Use 5/11/98 ON MONEY BY MARGARET MANNIX Home-page snoops Does your family have a home page on the Internet? If so, you might want to reconsider how much personal information you post online. Con artists who steal others' identities, get credit in their names, then leave innocent people with a mountain of debt to fight and ruined credit to clean up are discovering the charms of the Net. Old-fashioned techniques like wading through Dumpsters for discarded credit-card receipts take time. These days, a savvy thief can hack into an Internet service provider's subscriber list and lift credit-card numbers by the thousands. Databases full of sensitive information have been inadvertently left open in cyberspace. And some online outfits peddle sensitive information without regard to privacy, despite Federal Trade Commission scrutiny last year that encouraged many to limit how they sell services like looking up Social Security numbers. Meanwhile, thousands of netizens are unknowingly making it easier for thieves to steal their identities by posting individual home pages, family genealogies, and résumés. Sure, there's no harm in posting photographs of Morris or Fido. And only the foolish post a Social Security number on a Web site. But many pages are packed with the sort of details identity thieves crave: full names, birth dates, birthplaces, addresses, occupations, degrees, phone numbers. With the click of a mouse, a thief has a personal dossier at his fingertips. Think about it. A name, birth date, and birthplace will get you a birth certificate, and a driver's license is not far behind. "The driver's license, unfortunately, has become a de facto ID," says Beth Givens, director of the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse in San Diego. It's the key to all sorts of financial services, and it propels a thief closer to the magic number: the Social Security number. Mom's maiden name. Some family tree tracers place details like a mother's maiden name online. That's often a common password for credit cards and bank accounts. Revealing such personal details, says Ed Howard, executive director of the Center for Law in the Public Interest in Los Angeles, is "privacy suicide." As Howard points out, the Internet isn't a toy. Your home page may have hooked you up with a long-lost friend or relative, but it can also put you at risk. Identity-theft victims suffer the aftermath of the criminal's spending sprees for years in the form of calls from collection agencies, ruined credit, even mistaken arrest. While the Internet is a wonderful tool for genealogists (it has revolutionized family research), think again before jeopardizing the privacy of your relatives by putting intimate details up on the Web. "If a family member is going to put up the genealogy, I think they should notify all the living members of that family tree," says Givens--who would prefer her family tree in book form. You'll never have complete control over your personal information, so you'll never be immune to fraud. But why make it easy for someone to impersonate you? If you wouldn't post your background on your local grocery store's bulletin board, don't put it on the Internet. "It's the world's bulletin board," says Carole Lane, author of Naked in Cyberspace: How to Find Personal Information Online (Pemberton Press, 1997, $29.95). And con artists are checking it out. Take a bite out of credit crimes Tip: Identity thieves like to rifle through mailboxes for preapproved credit card and loan solicitations, fill them out, and start using other people's credit. A 1997 amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (the law that governs credit bureaus) required credit bureaus to establish toll-free "opt out" lines that consumers can call to remove their names from those mailing lists. To keep your mailbox free of such identity thief temptations, call any of the three largest credit bureaus: Equifax (800) 556-4711 Experian (800) 353-0809 Trans Union (800) 680-7293
