Dear Kelley, and 'the list', Further to your request for a cemetery record look-up, I did not find any Stubblefields at all in the San Saba County Cemetery index. For BARNETT, I found three listings: Buried in the RICHLAND SPRINGS CEMETERY: Sidney Jane Barnett, born 11-16-1823, died 4-12-1890 Alexander Barnett, born 9-9-1816, died 1-16-1886 Jim Barnett, no dates given at all You didn't give me any 'first names' for BARNETT, so I don't know if these will be of help to you or not. Good Luck! Karen Gauny Crisalli > >
Dear Karen and 'the list', Thank you so much for your help on trying to locate the graves of John Barnett and his wife Zilphia....we will just have to keep searching. We also appreciate the tips for locating other San Saba related books. I don't recognize any of the Barnett names you mentioned who are buried at Richland Springs, but feel they have to be related to my Barnetts of the same location. If anyone has info. please contact me. June Hamrick Schaub archer@qwest.net Note: Kelley Tolbert.....please contact me regarding the Barnett Family!! The Hamrick Cemetery is shown on a map in the San Saba Co. History Book 1856-1983.....but we didn't find it by that, we didn't have the book at the time. Luckily my husband had a GPS locator and some vague directions.......we found an old farmhouse on private property and asked if we could go thru the locked gates and look for the old Hamrick cemetery......they let us climb "over and under" the fence and go onto the property, "thinking we were really looking for arrowheads".....we found out later! But we did find a few graves ....and they were the ones I really needed to prove my lineage......so I was beyond thrilled! It was as if we were "led to them" and it was quite a day!.....Unfortunately the photos are not that good, but at least we did find them before they were totally unreadible & deteriorated. There was a very nice grave with ornate fencing around it like a crib...with a large granite tombstone. It was the grave of a young man who we know nothing about...........named J.R. BECKMAN, but we are hoping to find his family someday. Here are the notes on what we found at that cemetery in Oct. 1999, and the location, etc. The Hamrick Cemetery in San Saba, TX. GPS location for the Hamrick cemetery is N.31,12,15 and W. 98,40,15. We Found 18 to 22 graves, but the majority were unreadible markers or just rocks .....so that we will never know who they belong to. Under a live oak tree we found the main one we needed to see - June's GG Grandfather, who was only known as "Coonie Hamrick" in her family for his racoon hunting skills! His given name was: > Joseph W. Hamrick > son of > B.L & E.T. Hamrick (E.T. was Elizabeth Torinda "Rinda" Barnett daug. of John and Zilphia Barnett) > Born Nov. 29, 1860 > Died Nov 3, 1885 > The grave has the inscription of a hand , with the fingers > closed except for the first finger, which is pointing toward > Heaven. There is an inscription at the bottom: "Dear Father > with a reverent hand ..... s thy memory g.... while one by > one .... Household Band Reunited in Heaven." > > Right next to this grave (North, toward the San Saba River) is June Hamrick Schaub's > Great Great Great Grandfather : > The marker has fallen over on the stones that cover the > grave, and broken into little pieces. However, like a puzzle > whose pieces are only slightly seperated, we could make out > the following: > > Burrell L. Hamrick ( At the top of this marker are two > hands, clasped in a handshake.) > Died Dec 9, 1865 > Age - 45 years > At the bottom is the inscription : "A precious one from us > is gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in > our home. Which never can be filled." > > On the South side of Joseph W. "Coonie" Hamrick's grave we found two > more graves of his younger sisters. All of these graves being in line with each other. > > Between these two is another broken marker reading: > Frances Amanda > Born Dec 10, 1858 > Died Dec 17, 1865 > > Ellen Ellisa > Born Oct 6, 1861 > Died Dec 10, 1863 > > At the bottom the inscription : "Daughters of B.L. and E.T. > Hamrick, Gone but not forgotton." > > Nearby are two other graves with markers - under a rather large bush. We had to > crawl in under the brush to read them..... > Hugh E. > son of > T.H. & M.E. > Goodloe > Jan 29, 1885 - Aug 9, 1901 > > and > > Elva Mae Crawford > dau. of C.T. & P.B. Crawford > > with the inscription : "A little flower of love that > blossomed but it died" > Born July 16, 1900 > Died Aug 9, 1901 We have since found that these were the children of other Hamrick relatives. > > The grave that we first found that is contained in the small > ornate fence is: > J.R. Beckman > Born Mar 19, 1869 > Died Dec 4, 1903 > This is the most recent of the graves found here. Most of the Hamrick grave markers in San Saba showed "A hand pointing toward the Heavens....or clasped hands, and inscription Gone But Not Forgotten". So, hoping to make some more connections and to encourage others not to give up searching for the graves of their ancestors. Sincerely, John & June(Hamrick) Schaub Chandler, AZ archer@qwest.net
