Perhaps the name "KNEER" is German. In German, the 'k' and the 'n' would be both be pronounced. It would end up sounding like one would expect to pronounce "KANIER." I don't know the family or anything about them. I just studied German... so I read/pronounce the two versions the same way... Good luck
