Ed News: -- Vegetation is rap[idly] recovering from the effocts of [a] late freeze. [R]ain is badly needed and if it [does] not come soon somebody is going to get in bad shape. [T]he Rev. J. A. Irwin preached [her]e Saturday night, Sunday at 11 [and] Sunday evening. Prof. W. N. Ellis, of the Brady [Hi]gh School, came home Friday [morn]ing and returned to Brady ____ day evening. Judge Plum_____ of Brady, accompanied Bill ________. They report it very dry in [Mc]Culloch county, there being [sca]rcely any water in that county excepting in the wells. Our good people got rid of all our surplus chickens and turkeys [las]t week. Two men from Lampasas swapped goods for chickens. [So]me of the boys took these men's _____gons for the cars. All fools day came and the boys ________ [cut off] -- China. We have seen farmers wear brighter smiles than the Chinamen are wearing now. Corn was bitten down [sic] and the wheat and oats are needing rain. If it don't rain soon we can all go fishing, and I won't that be jolly for the candidates. [sic] They can turn their horses out to graze; put up their Sunday clothes and go to the river and catch frogs and minners [sic] for the dear people. It will be well for some of them to practice up a little as the most proficient catcher of bait will be the most popular. The boys spoken of in our last communication escaped without further injury than a few scratches. They are not talking wolves now but are going into the more peaceful pursuit of tank building. Jim McDaniel and family and his son-in-law, Will Page, left Sunday, April 3rd for Arizona. They are going through in wagons. Jim McCarty has actually gone to stealing. Week before last he stole a young lady, Miss Corda Smith, of Richland Creek, and after a short ceremony at the residence of Newt McDaniel, which gave him a bona fide title to the property he had stolen, he and his bride started for a trip to Mason County. They returned last Friday and that night the boys gave them a serennade. They are house keeping in a part of the house occupied by George Tomlinson. Mellica Man. -- After A Woman!
