Posted on: San Saba Co., TX Queries
with Automated Mailing List Posting Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/SanSaba/10667 Surname: Cash, Wadkins, Watkins ------------------------- Lisa, Thank you ever so much ! I never thought about trying to get an inter-library loan of the Court Records. One question, do you know which court I will have to ask for the records from ? I mean would it be a State Court, District Court, or just a County Court ? I understand that the microfilmed records will come from the state archives, but, I figure that they will want an exact court name to order records from. Again, thanks ever so much for responding, I have a cousin that lives outside of San Saba and she has promised several times to go to the Courthouse and look up the records but, never has. And uncle of mine tried back in the early 1900's ( shortly after his uncle's murder) to get a copy of the court transcript and was told it was 1500 words long and that it would cost him one cent per word for a copy, he was too poor to afford it so asked my great grandfather (murder victim's brother) to go in with him on purchasing the transcript, my great grandfather said "to leave it alone as old Elijah was just as bad as those that killed him" !!! Well, it makes a good story. Thanks again. James

    3. Posted on: San Saba Co., TX Queries
with Automated Mailing List Posting Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/SanSaba/10666 Surname: ------------------------- You can request court records through interlibrary loan. (I believe they come from the State Archive.) Go to the main branch of your local public library to the section that has genealogy holdings. [I know that the Dallas Public Library is very good; Ft. Worth probably is too, but I've never been there.] You need to know the timeframe and location/county. The records will probably take a couple of weeks to get to you after you make your request, and if I remember correctly, you can only request a couple of microfilm rolls at a time, so you might have hit-or-miss luck with the dates, if you're not sure. There will probably be a couple of years worth of records on each microfilm. You want the Court Minutes for the county in question, which will include a record of the charges, some basic facts of the case, the ruling of the court and the sentencing. Depending on the county and the time, there may be more detail. The records were bound into books and lettered or numbered. At the beginning of each book will be a sheet to let you know the timeframe covered by the book, and there should be an index at the beginning or end of each book. Names are sorted by the letter they start with, but usually NOT alphabetized within each letter, so you'll have to look carefully. I live in San Antonio and have requested the records for San Saba before, with no problems. Good luck! Lisa Mitchell bslick7819@aol.com

    2. Dear Dot, You asked for a 'look-up' for David or Mary CORNUTT/CORNETT from the early cemetery listings. Unfortunately, there are neither listed in the book I have. In fact, the only "Cornutt" at all is a Susan F. Cornutt, buried in Hanna Cemetery, listed with a birth date of 11-29-1827 and death date of 2-1-1915. Sorry!
