Dear Delina and List, We do have a section in our book for this type of material as it provides an interesting snapshot of lifeand times in old San Saba. Of course, we want the main characters to be from San Saba. Thanks, Lynn
Hi Lynn, Regarding the articles still having time to be accepted for Vol.II, I wonder if I had a handwritten note about the old days of late 1800s when my great grandmother went to an all-night party and met my great grandfather there. It names the Colonel's ranch or farm where it was held, one of two of the tunes played, etc. I cannot recall right this second whether they went from San Saba to Lampasas for the party or vice versa, but I think it was the former. Is something like this worth trying to dig my notes out of storage, or since they left the county for the all-night shindig, I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to the book??? I could try to find it and transcribe it if you think it has some possibilities. My great grandparents were James Newell DYER and Mattie Clark MASTERSON, who married in July of 1885. I think the third wife of a pioneer, Dr. Robert MASTERSON, was there too. Mattie Clark MASTERSON was born Martha Clark Masterson in San Saba, Texas in 1864, and her mother, Virginia B. CLARK died when Mattie was only 3. Also, I seldom ever post, but I wanted to this go to Jerry & Lynn Blankenship as well as to whole list. Hope I did it right. Thanks, Delina Porter
Dear list, I wanted to let you know that the Historical Commission is still accepting material for Volume 2 of the History Book however we do think we are getting close. I am enclosing the article which will appear in next week's San Saba News. Lynn The San Saba County Historical Commission is still accepting articles for Vol. 2 of the San Saba County History Book. The Historical Commission decided at its May meeting last week that we still have room for a few more articles. They may be articles on your family or other topics of historical interest, which were not covered in the first Volume. Pictures depicting life and times of San Saba over the last century are most welcome. Recently we have received articles about old San Saba County Swimming Holes, the Flood of 1899 and more about our local organizations. We have received some very interesting pictures. We want to thank everyone that has contributed material so far. If you have been putting off writing your article or sending us your pictures, now is the time. We plan to have our initial draft prepared by fall. If you have material you would like to contribute you may contact any of the following members of the Commission. Nancy Bannister, Paula Barrier, Jerry or Lynn Blankenship, Kathy Cox, Pat Foster, Jackie Howell, Marilyn Johanson, Carolyn McCoury, Betty Jo Miller, Elsie Millican, Cindy Prater, Lou Bates Simpson, Nelda Weatherby or David Williams. You mail your articles to the San Saba Historical Commission, 500 E. Wallace, San Saba, TX 76877
