Hello! I saw your recent note on the San Saba County webpage asking about the MEDDERS line. I have ONE "MEDDERS" in my personal file. Although I am not related to the MEDDERS line one of them did marry into my GAUNY line in the early 1900's as follows: Chester "Chic" MEDDERS married Eva Lee GAUNY in San Saba County in 1922. They had one son - Claude Murray MEDDERS - born in 1923. "Chic" Medders wife Eva died a year later, in 1925. For whatever reason, Eva's parents took charge of raising young Claude, and he was adopted (formally or informally I do not know) by them and from that time on his went by GAUNY rather than MEDDERS. I believe that his grandparents took sole responsibility for raising him, and he possibly didn't know his father very well. I heard - and this is only family lore - that Chester "Chic" Medders remarried and moved out of San Saba, leaving the son with his former in-laws. The son, Claude Murray Medders Gauny married Elsie Ireta Sutton in San Saba in the 1940's. He died in Bell County in the 1970's. Are Chester and/or Claude part of your MEDDERS line? If so, I'd love to share what little additional details I have with you. Where are you located? Is anyone else on this list connected to this MEDDERS line (or to Elsie Ireta SUTTON or any GAUNY'S?) Regards, Karen Gauny Crisalli

Hello List Members! I have come into possession of a college album from the 1920's with loads of photos, memorabilia, diary entries, etc. I bought it sight unseen because I heard it had information on San Saba in it. Is anybody connected to the following: Miss Frances WILROY graduated from Huntington, Texas High School in the early 1920's. She then attended NTSTC (North Texas State Teachers College) and subsequently came to San Saba by train in 1925 (?) to teach at a school in or near COLONY - perhaps traveling with a "Hannah"; the teachers apparently stayed with "Mrs. Annie Harrel". Another teacher may have been a girl named "Bobbie". Frances Wilroy wrote several pages over the course of the school year, mentioning lots of folks - mostly only by first names, but some more specific, such as "Mr. Ragsdale preached on Sunday" I find her writings about coming to San Saba/Colony to teach and socialize are a very interesting look at the townspeople in the 1920's; she describes her outings, friends, places etc. There are dozens of photos (from both her college and San Saba visit) but NONE are identified! I would really like to find her descendants and get this album into deserving hands someday. Any clues?????
