If so there is a book by a woman named Mary Bilberry Stoneman...and there is mention of a Widow James. I am almost certain this is the same people. I am not certain, but think there is an "account" of the killing in this book. There are some queries in the Stonewall/Kent County Forum for "James". Let me know what you think. There was also a Lige Henderson killed by the San Saba Mob about a month before Will James. According to the account, Lige was killed in June...so Will James was probably killed in July-August and before 1896 when the Bilberry family moved to Kent Co. When the Bilberry's arrived in Kent County, there were law officers waiting to take them back for the indictment of Lige and Will's killings in 1896. No one was ever convicted. Will James' widow had a child three months after he died, a daughter named Willuie, after her father. There was a son, unnamed who saw his father's bullett riddled body, and swore to kill those in the mob who killed his father. His father was a second cousin to the Bilberry's (I think). This happened at the Shiloah Community, so they (Will and Lige) should be buried there. Let me know if you found out what you wanted to know. Nancy

    3. Dear AJ: I have an ancestor (gggg-uncle) Sanford Hufstutler, b. 1835 married Elizabeth (Pet) Brown, b. 1847, daughter of Matt Brown. My third cousin, Nicola Adams Cawyer, who did some of our Bartlett family research said that she remembered as a small child (this would have to be around 1924 or 1925 and Uncle Matt would have been in his late 90's), Uncle Matt Brown coming to her house. "He was blind - probably from glaucoma. His wife had left him as she said she could not care for him. The family took turns taking care of Uncle Matt. Mama ( Jessie Bartlett Adams) would go after him every so often and keep him a week or two. All he had was in his "grip". "(*this would have to be around 1924 or 1925 and Uncle Matt would have been in his late 90's. Nicola had since passed away, so I cannot confirm this story) I have one other researcher's notes - Ruth Gadbury - on Sanford and Elizabeth Hufstutler. They settled between North and South Antelope Creeks in the western part of Lampasas County. Later their ranch became part of Mills County. They are buried at Chadwick Cemetary, formerly called Chapel. If you are interested in a copy of Ruth Gadbury's notes, I would be glad to send copies if you would send your "snail" mail address to my email - formy4@airmail.net Liz Sanders Fort Worth, TX AJ Morris wrote: > Posted on: San Saba Co., TX Queries<br> with Automated Mailing List Posting > Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/SanSaba/608 > > Surname: Brown > ------------------------- > > I am interested in Information about the marriage of Matt Brown to Tabitha > Brewster in San Saba county.
