East Texas Genealogical Society Tyler Public Library Taylor Auditorium 201 S. College, Tyler, TX February 9, 2019, 2p.m. On Saturday, February 9, 2019, the East Texas Genealogical Society guest speaker will be Kyle Ainsworth, Special Collections Librarian, East Texas Research Center at the Ralph W. Steen Library at Stephen F. Austin (SFA) State University. His topic will be “Runaway Slaves in the Fabric of Texas History and Memory”. The meeting is at Tyler Public Library, Taylor Auditorium, 201 S. College, Tyler, TX. The meeting is free and open to the public. Kyle has been at SFA since 2011; received tenure in September 2017; and became a certified archivist in September 2018. Mr. Ainsworth’s primary responsibility is the ongoing description and upkeep of about 600 archival collections. Mr. Ainsworth also provides reference and research assistance to patrons; regularly gives tours; and leads archival class instruction. Kyle has two research interests. In 2018 he co-wrote a book chapter on archives and high-impact student learning. Mr. Ainsworth is interested in continuing to research how archives can make an impact teaching students with primary sources. Also, he has written grants, given presentations, earned a sabbatical, and published as project manager of the Texas Runaway Slave Project. Following the regular meeting, Kyle will also speak to the Computer Interest group about the digital collects of the SFA/ETRC.
