    1. [TXSMITH] East Texas Genealogical Society meeting, October 13th
    2. East Texas Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, October 13, at 2p.m., at Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium, 201 S. College Avenue Tyler, TX 75702. The meeting is free and open to the public. Dorothy J. Franks will discuss her coordination and research of the Monte Verdi plantation and the Devereux slaves and descendants. As part of a program “We Say Their Names”, on September 1, 2018, the Texas Historical Commission recognized Monte Verdi Plantation Family Slaves as a significant part of Texas history by awarding an official Texas Historical Marker. Marker #20165 - Monte Verdi Family Slaves were honored as an important and educational part of local history. The dedication was held at the Monte Verdi Plantation, located at 1192 CR 4233W, Cushing, Texas, in Rusk County. Dorothy Franks is the director of Texas Slave History and Inventory Preservation. She has Teacher Certification from University of Texas at Tyler, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from LeTourneau University, Longview, Texas. Dorothy has completed Journalism Studies through University of Texas at Tyler, and a Certificate, Project Management from BELL System Center of Technical Education, Boston Heights, Illinois.
