The Shelby County Historical Society will be accepting applications for HISTORIC SITE signs until May 1, 1999. We will be selecting 10 sites for 1999. Please help us spread the message around that whomever may be interested in submitting a request should do so. They will need to include a written history on the site and why should it be considered for a sign. (Person, place, architecture or event) Also include a photo of the location where the sign will go, directions to get to the site and a contact person (phone # and address). Permission for the sign to be placed on the property along the roadway will need to be mentioned in the letter. The signs will be individually numbered to correspond to a brochure / map. It is the goal of the Society to erect these signs thoughout Shelby County. Also sites that have been marked by the Texas Historical Commission Marker Program and county cemeteries will be placed on this indexed map. This Society program should not be confused with the THC and local Commission Marker Program. The signs will be erected by the Society, however a donation to cover the sign and post would be appreciated, but not necessary.
