    3. PLANTING SHELBY COUNTY One bulb at a time... Preserving our county's cultural heritage as well as its natural beauty The Shelby County Historical Society is proud to have sponsored such a successful fundraiser benefiting our museum, genealogy library and county beautification. In only two weeks, over 1000 bulbs were ordered by individuals, businesses and civic organizations! About 300 bulbs will be donated back to the Society to plant around the county on public property such as parks and right-of-ways. The bulbs will be in January 5th and 6th and can be picked up at the Museum, 230 Pecan Street, Center, TX. Society volunteers and the Junior Chamber of Commerce students under the direction of Mrs. Silver Motley will be planting bulbs donated back for public planting. These bulbs were selected for the East Texas climate and will each year naturally multiply thus offering more and more blooms each year. THIS PROJECT WILL BECOME AN ANNUAL EVENT FOR THE SOCIETY! So be on the lookout for next years order forms. ALSO START LOOKING FOR THE FLOWERS TO START BLOOMING AROUND THE COUNTY IN MID FEBRUARY, MARCH AND APRIL! Thanks to the Light & Champion Newspaper and KDET for running public service announcements and to The Balcony, Chamber of Commerce, and Lufkin Jewelry for helping distribute the order forms.
