I, too, was born at the Center Sanitarium in 1942. T.L. Hurst delivered me. My parents were "homeless" at the beginning of the war and lived with cousins of my dad in Dallas. Mom came home to Center to deliver me before returning to the room in the cousin's house in Dallas. Her family, William Lee and Dezzie McCauley Owen, lived at Short and mom, a registered nurse, tells me that she asked her brother to take her in to the hospital when she went into labor.
