    3. I don't know about Dr. Ellington, but you might consider the 'Eugene' part. You should cousult the expert grandson of Dr. Eugene Short Carroll, William E. Carroll: wbilcar@ionet.net If this dosen't work, there was a medical association to which doctors in Shelby County belonged before 1900 (and after) which usually listed most of them. I come across lists from it from time to time. If this fails, you can still consult the 1900 and 1910 censuses, where he will probably be identified as a doctor if he was.
