Dr. Len B. Hughes spoke before a full room during last Thursday's Historical Society meeting. Dr. Hughes presented a very interesting program on the Hughes Genealogy and the research avenues he used to complete the book. The best advise Dr. Hughes gave the audience was "Prior to researching your family, my best advise is to study the history of the area. Learn all you can about the people, customs, and events that shape the area. Then start looking into your family genealogy. This process will help immensely when it comes to documenting facts and particulars about your family members." After the meeting refreshments were served by the Society. Guests had an opportunity to sign copies of Dr. Hughes' book and visit with him about his research and travels. If you have any questions about Dr. Hughes or his research or wish to obtain a copy of his book, please call or email the society. -- Shelby County Historical Society Shelby County Museum and Genealogy Research Library Post Office Box 1542 230 Pecan Street Center, Texas 75935-1542 tel:936/598-3613 fax: 936/591-0959 schs@panola.cc.tx.us www.panola.cc.tx.us/~schs Monday - Friday 1:00 - 4:00 Saturdays 10:00 - 2:00 After hours by appointment
