Today the Shelby County Historical Society received a collection of letters, family writings, genealogy, photos, post cards, early 1900s newspapers from Shelby County and much more from Dr. Warner Massey. The collection came from his mother, Sue Barron Massey, who recently past away. Mrs. Massey is the daughter of E.H. Barron, a builder in Shelby County and the person who built the house the museum presently is housed in. We are very proud to be entrusted with such a collection. The society will be going through the items over the next several weeks sorting. Collections Managers, Chris Mahan and Phabreece Havis will guide the volunteers as they manage to go through all of the artifacts readying the collections for accession and preservation. We are deeply appreciative of the Massey family for their donation and for the measures they have taken to ensure the preservation of Shelby County's history. If you would like to know more about our preservation program, please contact the museum. -- Shelby County Historical Society Shelby County Museum and Genealogy Research Library Post Office Box 1542 230 Pecan Street Center, Texas 75935-1542 tel:936/598-3613 fax: 936/591-0959 schs@panola.cc.tx.us www.panola.cc.tx.us/~schs Monday - Friday 1:00 - 4:00 Saturdays 10:00 - 2:00 After hours by appointment
