Howdy folks! I have been "digging" in Shelby County for a few years now and never subscribed to the mail list. 'bout time. My husband's grandmother Jimmie Lillian Adams was born in Shelby County in 1907. Her parents were Mary Francis Lout and John Richard Adams, both born in Shelby County. Evidently the Adams and Lout family lines in Shelby County go waaaaaaay back, and there's a bunch of them (grin). Jimmie married Thomas Bookout in 1926-they are my husband Tom's grandparents. Thomas had been married previously to Kate Moore (died 1922, buried in Fields Cemetery) and Molly Lout (died 1925, buried Rather Cemetery). Thomas was left with a small son (Coy, son of Molly) and he married Jimmie, Molly's cousin. So you can see lots of Shelby County connections. Supposedly Thomas bought the land where Fields Cemetery is located. It is across the road from Shelbyville High School. He would have ties to the Fields family through marriage. The land also was where the old MECS church was located. I would LOVE to find out what happened to this property-who owns it now? Has the cemetery been located?
