From the August 14, 1991 (and previous) Shelby County Historical Society Newsletter, I noticed that there was info of a Petition, dated April 7th, 1838, in which citizens had signed and presented to the Republic of TX, Senate & House of Representatives, asking that county lines be changed, as to help those living in the larger distance away from the county seat, as it took quite a while for a citizen in these areas to travel to the county seat, to meet certain county obligations, thereby leaving their families unprotected. Among the names subscribed to the Petition, were David Cannon and Lewis Watkins, who were related to my husband's Cannon family. Anyone have a true copy of that particular document, or maybe a list of all of the names that signed the petition. I surely would like to see this list of names, as to check it for any other names that might be connected to the Cannon family, showing that they were in TX by 1838. Thanks, Sallie Cannon
