Seeking information on LEWIS T. WATKINS, b. 1782 VA, who came to Shelby Co., TX about 1835. His 1st wife was POLLY FREEMAN, and they had children: 1.. Lewis T., Jr. WATKINS 2.. Rhoda Jackson WATKINS b: 11 Jan 1816 in Murfresboro, Rutherford County,Tennessee He married 2nd, Elizabeth Ruff Cannon Holt, prior to 1850 in Shelby Co., TX. Lewis, died prior to 1860 census, and Elizabeth Watkins shows in 1860 census record for Nacogdoches Co., TX. --- 1860 Nacogdoches Census P 157, Cherino 560/550 Stewart, Jorden D. 45 m farmer Ten Margaret 52 f housekeeper Ten Nancy 22 " " Miss Josiah 21 m boot/shoe maker Ala Mary 17 f Miss Paralee 16 " Ala Watkins, Elizabeth 67 f S.C I noticed that there was a database submitted to Rootsweb, showing JORDEN D. (DAVID) STEWART, b. Nov. 16, 1862, and having died in Shelby Co., TX, and his grandmother appears to be Margaret (Rebecca) WATKINS. How is Margaret (Rebecca) Watkins, related to Lewis T. Watkins? Any clues as to why Elizabeth Watkins, would be living with the Stewart family, rather than her own Cannon, Hall, McWilliams and Holt descendants in Shelby Co., TX? Any clues as to where Elizabeth Watkins is buried? I would appreciate hearing from descendants of the above. Thanks, Sallie Cannon
