I have traced the Burkhalters from Switzerland to Georgia, and from there to Mississippi and west Texas. I have traced related families with which they intermarried to Shelby County, San Augustine County, and Nacogdoches County, Texas. I have traced the Burkhalters from these Texas counties back to Mississippi and Georgia but have not been able to connect the east Texas Burkhalters with the immigrant descendants. I am trying to make this connection. So, I am looking for any information on the Burkhalters who immigrated to east Texas and their ancestors. Here is a little bit of information about the immigrants from Switzerland to Georgia. Michael Burkhalter was a shoemaker in Maettenberg. He was a Mennonite. In 1692, after having been a Mennonite for 40 years, he and his wife were driven out of Switzerland. They were among a group who were so banished.
