John William Parker was born about 1884 in Shelby County and married Florence Wheeler (dau of Lycurgus Wheeler and Amanda Choate) probably in about 1910. I have combed carefully through the HISTORY OF SHELBY COUNTY which our local library has a copy of and found quite a bit on Wheelers and Choates, but virtually nothing on this family of Parkers. I know John William and Florence had at least one son, John Buren Parker, born 27 Jun 1913 at Center and married Maurie Denoice Reeves 27 oct 1934 in Center. I am wondering if you have any further information on John William and possibly who his parents were? Any help you can give me, or direction you can suggest, would be greatly appreciated. MAP I GRANT AWARDED TO MUSEUM: The Shelby County Historical Society and Museum received word that they are the recipient of a Museum Assessment Program I (MAPI) grant. The Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington D.C. awarded the Society and Museum a grant which pays for technical assistance, materials, surveyors' per diem and other associated fees and costs. The institutional assessment grant supports an evaluation of overall programs and operations. The survey report helps the museum structure its operations more efficiently, thereby improving its services to the community and increasing its base of support. This is a honor for the Museum and the East Texas area. -- Shelby County Historical Society Shelby County Museum and Genealogy Research Library Post Office Box 1542 230 Pecan Street Center, Texas 75935-1542 tel:409/598-3613 fax: 409/591-0959 [email protected] www.panola.cc.tx.us/~schs Monday - Friday 12:00 - 4:00 Saturdays 10:00 - 2:00 After hours by appointment

Hello, I'm new to the list but wanted to introduce myself. My name is Carolyn and I am researching my mother's family including BUSSEY, LEVERETT, SAPP. Christopher Columbus Bussey (Lum) was born about 1853 in Ala to Thomas F. Bussey and Elizabeth Leverett. They were originally from Lincoln county GA. Lum married Ann SAPP and had Hezekiah, Willis Redden, known as Will b. 1888, Jim and Maggie. I don't have much info on them but am willing to share and would love to find out more about my maternal family tree. Oh, Jim was killed in the line of duty in St. Louis in the 1920's and Will moved to OK and died in 1955. Carolyn
Bill, yes this is the proper way to post messages and questions to other list members.
Is this the proper way to post something to the Shelby County bulletin board or whatever we call it? Thanks. Bill Carroll At 12:41 PM 7/14/99 -0500, you wrote: >Hello... >Thanks for writing. Just testing. I haven't posted here before, & I want to make sure that I am doing it correctly before I try to post some important information that I have just discovered. Thanks. Bill Carroll "I have very often regretted my speech, but never my rare moments of silence."
