I have a copy of a message that appeared on the TXShelby web page back in 1997. I hope that you can help me reach the person who posted it, Shannon Campbell, I've sent this message to her e-mail address but after 3 years, I don't know if it is still valid. She said she lives on Cotton Ford Rd in Center TX. I will appreciate your help in contacting her. Thank you for your help. To Shanon Campbell: I have been trying to straighten out all of my collection of genealogical material and came across a message of yours which appeared on the Shelby Co web page back in 1997. One of the names you mention as researching is Parrish. I hope you can help me solve a mystery. My great grandmother was Alvenia Johnston. She had a sister/half-sister/step-sister named Sarah "Sally" born 1845-1848. Because of all of the fires and moves this family has been difficult to sort out. Anyway, Sally married a man named Parrish in late 1860 or early 1861. They had a daughter, Georgia Ann, born in Sept 1861. In Dec of 1865, Sally married Thomas N. Carroll. Georgia died following surgery in 1920 and is buried in the Carroll cemetery. Apparently she never married. Sally died in 1929. Can you provide any possibilities for the first husband of Sally and father of Georgia? My best guess would be that he died in the CW. Is there any mention of Georgia Parrish's life in Shelby Co.? What was the reason for surgery? I will appreciate any help you can provide. Joyce Morriss

The annual Jackson Church & Cemetery reunion is the 3rd Sunday in May which is the 21st of this month. I haven't been to one in years but am going to try and make it this year. I know they always have dinner on the grounds. If anyone else is going, let me know and maybe we can meet. Jane Sanford Keppler

I found a number of Youngbloods in the Corinth Cemetery. Does anyone on the list have any history on this particular group of Youngbloods. I am familiar with the group buried in the Tennessee Cemetery. I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me. Also, thanks very much for all the wonderful cemetery work that you have done in Shelby County. Ruth Youngblood

Hello! I'm looking for information on my grandmother. Her name was Eva (Evie) Theodocia Robinson Thedford. I have no information on her parents. She was living in Center at the time of her death - 1974. She had 3 children that lived - Mary Agnes (Thedford) Dotson, Billy Mack Thedford, and Tommie Lee (Thedford) Harvey. Her family Bible reports that her birth date was Oct. 10, 1893. But we don't know where she was born. The Bible also has her date of marriage to William Harrison Thedford as Sept. 22, 1919 in Lufkin, TX. Any information would be appreciated! Lorrie Thedford lorriet@mindspring.com

In response to Sandra's question about naming practices: A very good book on research, UNPUZZLING YOUR PAST by Emily Anne Croom, has a whole chapter on names with some very good information. Specifically on how families name their children, Croom says that practices vary from time to time. In the 18th and 19th centuries it went like this: Eldest son------often named fo rthe father's father 2nd son----------for mother's father 3rd son----------for the father 4th son----------for father's eldest brother Eldest daugther------for the mother's mother 2nd daughter-------for the father's mother 3rd daughter--------for the mother 4th daughter--------for the mother's eldest sister She cautions that in the USA, the pattern may be considered a clue, but not a rule.
