Mary Elizabeth Sanders Hooper ... born around 1871 ... and married to Francis Marion Hooper, Jr. She gave birth to George Robert Hooper in January of 1890 ... and then to a daughter, Josie E. Hooper Barton ... in October of that same year. She died on that day, or shortly after. And ... she is not ... The same Mary Elizabeth Sanders ... who's mother was Elizabeth Mary Hooper who married a Walter Pate Sanders. ***That one was born around 1950 ... and her brother had a daughter named after her ... but that one still does not seem to be our Mary. I have traced the Burkhalters from Switzerland to Georgia, and from there to Mississippi and west Texas. I have traced related families with which they intermarried to Shelby County, San Augustine County, and Nacogdoches County, Texas. I have traced the Burkhalters from these Texas counties back to Mississippi and Georgia but have not been able to connect the east Texas Burkhalters with the immigrant descendants. I am trying to make this connection. So, I am looking for any information on the Burkhalters who immigrated to east Texas and their ancestors. Here is a little bit of information about the immigrants from Switzerland to Georgia. Michael Burkhalter was a shoemaker in Maettenberg. He was a Mennonite. In 1692, after having been a Mennonite for 40 years, he and his wife were driven out of Switzerland. They were among a group who were so banished. They came to America in 1737 and settled in Georgia in the Vernonburg-Acton area. Any help would be appreciated. Doyle T. Brittain 330 Moose Club Drive Athens, GA 30606 athensga@ix.netcom.com
