He was born in Sabine County, Texas, on February 13, 1922, to Oliver A. and Velma Chambers. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy. Returning home to San Augustine, he became a farmer and a rancher. He was a member of the Sexton Masonic Lodge #251 in Milam, Texas, and was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by: Wife: Katy Thornton Chambers of San Augustine, Texas Son: Lane & Betty Chambers of San Augustine Daughters: Donna & Rusty Jones of Fred, Texas Rhonda & Steve Thompson of San Augustine,Tx. Grandchldren: Crystal & Chad Allen, Clint Chambers, Heath Jones, Brad Jones, Nicole Thompson, Jessica Thompson Sister: Mittie Bea Isom of Nederland, Texas He was preceded in death by a son; Wylie Chambers and a grandson, Lynn Benefield. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 17, 2003, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, San Augustine, with Bro. Frank Holrath officiating. Burial followed at the Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in San Augustine, Texas. Services were under the direction of Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, San Augustine, Texas.
