    3. There was an 1835 census that I know of of Sabine and San Augustine area. I have a transcription of this. I also have a transcription of both the 1850 Sabine and San Augustine Federal censuses, and would be glad to look up someone in these transcriptions if you give me the specifics. Thus, there are no US census records for Texas in 1840. Your best bet would be to search land grants and land records. I don't know if the Republic of Texas conducted a census during its existence. Perhaps someone else on the list may know.
