It is not that unusual for ages to be inconsistent--sometimes the info was given by a neighbor rather than someone actually in the family. Also, you have the wrong year for the census. It was 1860 rather than 1870--this is what I have: 1860 Census for San Augustine County Texas, page 354, Household 156: J. J. Sanders 61 Farmer $8,000 real estate $2,495 personal property Born in VA Sarah Sanders 62 Born in North Carolina Susan Sanders 24 Born in South Carolina William Sanders 21 Born in Texas Sarah E. Sanders 13 Born in Texas In Household 158 is the family of F. W. Sanders 35 born in South Carolina who this researcher believes is a son of J.J. and Sarah Sanders. I have some connections to Sanders in San Augustine or Shelby Co., but just to ones who were Watson descendants kinfolks from Coffee and Dale Co., AL. I noticed that she had an Elvin on her list and also a Holloway. Elvin is a popular Watson (or Byrd) family name. Green Byrd's second wife was a Holloway and they came to Shelby Co. after 1880 so there is probably no connection.
