    3. Patricia, You may want to check out the book "Gunsmoke in the Redlands" by Joe F. Combs. It was published by The Naylor Company in San Antonio, Texas, in 1968. Also, Joseph Combs wrote "Legends of the Pineys", which might be of interest to those looking for tales from the San Augustine region. Our own Bob Bowman of Angelina County has written and published several books about the people, places, and events of East Texas. One or two of his books deal with old tales of bad lands. As for cemetery records, I found a book in the San Augustine County Clerk's office that is entitled "Caucasian Cemeteries of San Augustine County, Texas. This was put together by people I know to be very knowledgable of the history of these cemeteries. They have traced information from every little crook and cranny in San Augustine County, and there are many of those which explains why so many "unsavory" characters came to SA to make it the land that it is. Being from that county, I consider these people to have been the "salt of the earth" people. Good luck.
