Velma Harvey married Elvin Sanders (b 1905), son of Marion Bee Sanders (1861) and Mary Elizabeth Welch (dau of unknown Welch and Sarah Wyatt(1840) Amanda Harvey (1838) married Willliam Hale Hereford (1809) who is the brother of Samuel Pearce (alias name) Herford that married Eliza Sanders, daughter of Charity Sanders. If you have the parents names of these Harvey's let me know. My Harvey contact is on vacation and I have to wait 'til she gets back to get more info on Harvey's. Hi Betty, There looks like two sets of Sanders/Saunders in San Augustine--so I'm trying to sort them out and see if/how they are related. lst Set John J. Saunders, wife Sally, children Frederick, James, Sarah Susan, Wm, Sarah J., Samuel H. and George W --on the 1850 census. Frederick and wife are on 1860 2nd Set Charity Sanders (husband not known)children: John Sanders m. l) Eliz. Thomas and 2) Amelia Ainsworth. The 1850 census showss John Elizabaeth and children John,Charity and Charles; and Eliza Sanders (dau of Charity) is on the 1850 census with husband Samuel Pearse (real name is Hereford). 3rd Set Millie Sanders (no husband), 37 S.C. with children Mary,Elizabeth, Harriet, Samuel, Ezekiel, Andrew, Elvira,Virginia;. QUESTION - how are these Sanders/Saunders related? The other point is the possibility that Charity Sanders (abt 1790 is connected to the Joel Sanders and Charity Holloway family in N.C.--as San Aug has Holloways in the same county with our Sanders/Saunders. We will have to trace our Sanders back and see if they point to that particular family. Could you tell me what line of Sanders you have and which one of the above you connect to and how far back you got. Maybe if we started putting this all together something might fit. There is a copy of the 1850 census of the San Augustine Co. GenWeb if you need to look at it. It is not that unusual for ages to be inconsistent--sometimes the info was given by a neighbor rather than someone actually in the family. Also, you have the wrong year for the census. It was 1860 rather than 1870--this is what I have: 1860 Census for San Augustine County Texas, page 354, Household 156: J. J. Sanders 61 Farmer $8,000 real estate $2,495 personal property Born in VA Sarah Sanders 62 Born in North Carolina Susan Sanders 24 Born in South Carolina William Sanders 21 Born in Texas Sarah E. Sanders 13 Born in Texas In Household 158 is the family of F. W. Sanders 35 born in South Carolina who this researcher believes is a son of J.J. and Sarah Sanders. Sarah was Sarah Rowe, daughter of Joseph Rowe and Mary Ann Murrow. Let me know if you need more info on this family-- Happy Hunting! Vinita Lynch Shaw vinil@aol.com
I have some connections to Sanders in San Augustine or Shelby Co., but just to ones who were Watson descendants kinfolks from Coffee and Dale Co., AL. I noticed that she had an Elvin on her list and also a Holloway. Elvin is a popular Watson (or Byrd) family name. Green Byrd's second wife was a Holloway and they came to Shelby Co. after 1880 so there is probably no connection. Thanks so much. Do you by chance have information on Pinkney Lout's mother, Lovica Anderson Lout Parmer, that you would be willing to share? I'm interested in learning exactly when she died and where she might be buried. One would think that she would be buried at the Rather Cemetery in Shelby Co., TX, but, I didn't see her there.
