Betty, What time period are you looking? I know of two cemeteries who, I believe, have MORA's buried. Sincerely, ZCP
Hi Michelle, It sounds like we are family! I also have Beards. John Lowrey Farr's parents were Henry and Margaret. I also have four siblings for John. John and Mary's daughter Joanne was married to Benjamin Walker Beard in 1886. I only have one child so far, their daughter Annabelle. Sound familiar? Daniel, and his father-in-law, Thomas Platt, both obtained land grants in San Augustine County,Republic of Texas, before 1840. Thomas Platt and his wife, Catherine Smith Platt, both presumably died in San Augustine, [Thomas in 1846,Catherine in 1840), but I have not been able to locate their burial place in any cemetery there. Perhaps they were both buried on their own property. Were land records of San Augustine in that time period recorded? and are they extant? I'd like to know where to start looking for their lonely gravesites. I'd appreciate an tidbits of info anyone could provide. James Daniel and Sallie Platt also presumably married in San Augustine, but later moved to Houston County. I have a good deal of info on their descendants. I'd be happy to share.
Hi Kathie, I don't have the answer to your question, but I was wondering..I have Farrs AND Lowerys in my family line..and most are from Nacogdoches, Etoile, Texas. Who are the parents of your Dr. John Lowery Farr? I also have ancestors buried in Broaddus, (George Reed Beard) but I'm not sure which cemetery. I'm sure he fits into my line somewhere. Hi Larry, I was wondering if you could check for my great grandparents William Carl Gregory and Mary Melvina (Farr) Gregory? I believe they lived at Broaddus in San Augustine County and probably died there as well. I am told William died May 03, 1913 and Mary died on March 26, 1939. I have no information about what cemetery they are buried in. Ironically William died the same day as his father-in-law Dr. John Lowrey Farr who, I am told, died in Nacogdoches County and is buried there in Wooten Cemetery at Etoile. Larry, Would you be able to find Joe Mora in the books or a name simular to that? Thanks, Betty
Paulette: No Jarrell listings in any of the cemetery books for San Augustine County. They could be in Sabine County. To check this you would have to check each cemetery. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ElB.2ACE/603.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I found Jacob Manning Coleman in the 1850 thomas Co. GA census while in the Valdosta, Ga library. He along with wife and several children are listed. He may not have owned any land while in Thomas Co which will make tracking him harder but he was in the 1850 census.By the way, I am decended through Charlie Manning Coleman.
Paulette: I have the three volume set of the San Augustine County Cemetery Books. Birth records from way back are simply not available and about the only way you can find a birth date is from family sources such as a Bible or from the tombstone. I sure would like to find my grandmother's daddy that died when she was a baby. Joe Mora was his name. He is supposed to be burried in a cemetery in San Augustine County. He married Jennie Quinn. Thanks, Betty Gregston Redfearn
Jim, Thanks. That's him. He was my gg-grandfather, and had apparently left his family years before his death. I believe that my grandfather (Jack Carroll) had a headstone placed on his grave years later. I didn't know he was a preacher. Thanks so much. Angi: He is in the Sowell Cemetery, located in the Norwood Community off of Farm to Market Road 1992 approximately ½ mile from State Highway 103. The Cemetery is located down a dirt road leading to the home of Mrs. Claude Lee and is in a pasture behind her home. The San Augustine County Cemetery Book Volume III shows his date of birth to be 29 February 1858 in Alabama and date of death to be 27 April 1940.
