Dear All, I just wanted to add a few tidbits and haven't had time. The Directions to the Bickley cemetery just need one more thing, you go west about 9 miles from Milam before you reach the FM 3448, or that would be about 11 miles east of San Augustine. Now just a little about the courthouse. The restoration of the courthouse was begun in 1998. A special seal with a historical design is located on the second floor. This emblem covers 6 ft. in diameter and starts with one 2 inch red ring, followed by the wording, "State of Texas, 1837, Sabine County". The complete seal includes 254 pieces of tile which represent the 254 counties in the state; Texas was the 28th State admitted and is defined by 28 tiles within the white star; 23 small blue stars hightlight Sabine County as one of the 23 Original Counties. The restoration was complete a few months ago and now the courthouse looks beautiful. On the corners of the courthouse lawn and beside the four entrances to the lawn have been placed old fashoned lights posts with white Globes. I am glad to report the Sabine Co. Jail Museum and Virgie Speights Memorial Library is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 am til 2 pm. They also have a phone (409) 787-4757. Gracie Smith is there each day. Mrs. Blance Toole continues to come several days a week. Although she had surgery a few weeks ago and hasn't been going since then. She is a remarkable lady and I love visiting with her. Also they have a new computer and have purchased Family Tree Maker. We are hoping later to collect more family info from researchers to put on the computer or to put into files in the library. I will probably be the one to undertake this task, so I'll let you know how this progresses and when we will need your input. Also, the computer will be going online.
