Hi, I think I'd like to compare notes with all of you GROCE searchers. I'm a LEE searcher, and the family below is of interest to me, especially with the Larkin name. My gg grandfather, John S (Shelton or Sheldon) Lee named his first born son Larkin Lee, though his father's name was Miller LEE (no middle name or else that was his middle name). Interestingly he also named his 2nd daughter, Laura Lee - both of these names of children of Larkin Lee below. My other Lee line is Isaac Lee b 1804 TN, parents unknown. I do have a little info on the LEE/GROCE family in TX, but would sure appreciate anything additional. Here's ALL I know: Isaac Lee b 1770, d 1836, m Patsy Unknown. Moved to present day TX as members of Austin's Second Colony, 1829 when they left AR for what is now Washington Co TX. With them were their unmarried children Hiram Lee and Tabitha Lee, daughter Nancy Lee and her husband Sanford Woodward (and their children), their widowed son Abner Lee brought his young son. Isaac Lee Jr and his family came to Ayish Bayou in 1828, probably with his father in law Joshua Groce and family. The son William stayed in AR for several years but came to Nacodoches area in the 1840's. I Isaac LEE b 1799 GA, m Mary Groce. Larkin LEE b 1824 AR in h/h 1850 Nacogdoches TX. 1837 Nacogdoches tax list. A.. Larkin G Lee b 16 May 1824 AR, d 1862, d 30 Apr 1862 Civil War, buried in unmarked grave in Oak Grove Cemetery. M 13 Jan 1852 Cherokee Co TX to Lucinda E Green (b 30 Nov 1825 Bibb co GA-d 7 Jan 1908) (confed pension papers & Marriage Records of cherokee Co TX). Lucinda was dau of Robert Green and Luzana? Richardson. 1857 Tax List Nag. Co TX, 1860 census Nacogdoches TX, 1861/2 Tax list Nag co. Served Co G 8th Tx Reg in Civil War. Lucinda living 1880 census and applied for pension #4854 (confed). 1. Laura Green Lee b 26 Jan 1853 TX 2. Isaac Edward Lee b 3 Feb 1856 TX B Nancy Lee b 1825 in Hempstead Co., AR II William Lee III Abner Lee IV Nancy Lee V Hiram Lee received TX land grant Washington Co TX VI Tabitha Lee Also in 1850 Nagodoches Co: Stewart Lee b 1805. As you can see, there's very little GROCE, but maybe if I follow that one for awhile I'll figure out the migration for the LEE's. Appreciate anything you can provide. Thx Shelley slee@concentric.net http://www.concentric.net/~slee > The GROCE name disappeared from my family line in 1841 when the last KNOWN > male Groce (Larkin) died, prob in Sabine Co, TX. However, Joshua may have > had other sons who did not come to TX in 1820-30s.
