Hello, I am typing this in its entirety from a book written by Robert Cecil McDaniel: Marker Inscription: A vetran of the war of 1812, Isaac Low (1781-1853) migrated to this area from Tennessee in 1828. During the Texas Revolution he operated a nearby ferry across the Sabine River to aid settlers fleeing from the advancing Mexican Army, He later served as a commissioner for Sabine County. His son Jesse Low (1812-1848), whose grave is the earliest marked at this site, donated the land for use as a cemetary. Also buried there are Reddick Pitt Sibley, a captain during the civil war, and Eli Low, whose 1883 murder resulted in a three year feud in the surrounding area. Isaac Low is my husbands ggg-grandfather, is Eli Low, Isaac's son??? why was he murdered, who murdered him, and what was the feud about??? If anyone has the answers to this question please let me know. I am told by the elders in our family that they are kin to all the Low's and probably Lowe's also, in Sabine County, Tx. Also Reddick Pitt Sibley was my husband's gg-grandfather, there is a book out, called The Sibleys in America that is 1700+ pages and is in two volumes, I purchased the book last week and it is very interesting, starts in England in 1597 and goes forward. If anyone wants more information on this book e-mail me and I will send you the information to contact James Scarborough Sibley. I want to thank all the people who have helped me with my search for my roots in East Tx. there is a lot of history there and I would like to have as much as I can research and read about. I also have information on the family and am willing to share what I have. Linda Surratt-White plstyx@aol.com
David, and other EARL researchers, A sister EARL researcher, Gwen McConnell of Rosenberg TX sent me this letter that need to be incorporated in our EARL/GRAY endeavors: "...Your Dec 27th communication with David WILLIAMS is serendipity for me. My understanding was that the Catholic church that I had thought should have the EARL's baptism & marriage records, had burned. Now you have come up with abstracts of the St. John Baptiste des Natchitoches, LA, 1729-1803 records. Immediately, I jump to the supposition that the baptismal sponsor Felicite ETIE is Maria GRAY EARL's sister Late'. Do you have a line on the sponsor Carlos HUOOT? My experience is that sponsers are kin of the child's parents. Did he marry one of Maria's sisters or Richard EARL's sister (if he had a sister)? There were so few people in the area, HUOOT may have been a Catholic neighbor, who was enlisted. Can we EXAMINE the ORIGINAL church documents? Where? Sine are are look for the name "Mathew", not "Martin," we might discover Martin was misread. Maria GRAY EARL's father was "Mathieu", which is the same as Mathew, isn't it? People are really jumping into genealogy. What scares me is that the newer folks, with computers, are spreading bad info without checking it out. Research sometimes is more tedious than thay think. I am not settled on the Benjamin LINDSEY-Amy EARL LINDSEY story (are there 2 or more Amy's)." {folks, this is my family "connection", & I have not ever had any other LINDSEY work except my own to confirm this...Jackie} So, David (or anyone), if you have any comments to add to this, e-mail me, cause Gwen does not use the computer. We sure get spoiled fast by this rapid sharing, don't we? ***Jackie Ashley Pace, Pasadena TX
Hi Kay, Thank you so much for the information, I know our families are related it makes me feel so good when I find connections, especially these names. I do know about the Garlington Book and have tried to find a copy to buy, but I don't think there is a copy around, there is a copy in the Ft. Worth Library, so I will try to get over there to look at it. Do you know of anyone who has a copy for sale? Here is some more information, you may have this info already, I don't have a lot: Bryan Jay Smith Married in 1918 or 1919 in Newton County Mary Elizabeth Smith b. 11-17-1920 Married 4-9-1937 in Hemphill Sabine Co Tx. John David White b.12-14-1914 Richardson Tx d.3-13-1993 in Dallas tx. Have the name dates etc. of this family if you need it, this is the family I am in. Mary divorced John, and remarried Forrest Earl Sims. also have some info on this marriage, I don't know what you need, I have all this on the FTM 3.2 for windows. Attie Lois Smith b. 2-22-1923 Sabine County, Tx Bryan Jay Smith, Jr. b. 5-12-1925 Sabine County, Tx. Albert Vincent Smith b. 11/30/1928 Sabine County, Tx. Wanda Leah Smith b.1/9/1933 Sabine County, Tx Miles Martin Smith b. 9-27-1935 Sabine County, Tx. Bryan Jay Smith and Mittie Drucella Martin Smith are buried at Fairmount Cemetary, some of the Martins are buried at Mount Sinai Cemetary, and some relatives also buried at Lows Cemetary and Tebo cemetary I think. I am working on getting more information on this family as a lot of the older generation is still alive and am in the process of interviewing them, so I will keep in touch if a door opens I will keep you informed, please keep me informed also and if you need anything else ask, I need it all so if you have anything let me know. Thanks for all your help. doors close, doors open Linda Surratt-White plstyx@aol.com
Dear Linda Surratt-White, If you have connections with all these, we are definately cousins. Daniel Vincent Smith was the son of the 4th wife of William Smith. My ancestor, Edward Smith was a son of William's with his 3rd wife. Bryan Jay Smith married Mittie Drucella Martin. She was the daughter of Albert Hill Martin and Mary E. Sibley (dau of Capt. Reddick Pitt Sibley and Matilda Nancy Ann Low). Albert Hill Martin was a brother to my great great grandmother Martha Ann Martin. Their parents were Aaron Martin and Mary B. Hill (1st married to a Willis and later married an Eddy). My Mother is in the DRT through Aaron Martin. I haven't been able to find out any more info on Mary B. Hill or Aaron Martin for that matter. I'm very interesed in sharing the info I have. I show Easter Ann Miller that married Daniel Vincent Smith was born in GA and her parents were Reuben Miller and Catherine Wolf. My grandfather's first Cousin was Edna McDaniel White. She did a lot of research and wrote "Sabine County Genealogical Sketches" and "They Came to Texas". There is also "The Garlington Family". I'm not personally related to the Garlingtons, but both my Smith and McDaniel family members married Garlingtons, so they were included in this book. These books contain a lot of info on these families of ours. Looking forward to hearing from you. Kay Parker McCary, Milam, Sabine County, Texas

Hey! Kathi, thanks! You were very sweet to look up the Alford name in the Sabine County Marriage Records. I am sure it will be helpful in my research. Many, many thanks, Shirley saalford@worldnet.att.net
Does anyone know Marie McMAHAN, who wrote "HORTON FAMILY F486" in book NACOGDOCHES COUNTY FAMILIES, 1985. She identified Elizabeth Davenport Cooper Groce as an ancestor. I want to know who she was, and what her GROCE connections were. I am a descendant of Mathew EARL & Larkin GROCE of Sabine County, ca 1828. Can anyone help me find Marie? ***Jackie Ashley Pace of Pasadena TX
