Hello, everyone. I'm new to this list. A Second World War story involving the husband of one of my great-aunts, EDWARD FRANK STRUGALA, has led me through a roundabout path to this list. EDWARD FRANK STRUGALA was born on June 6, 1893, probably in Robertson County, son of FRANK STRUGALA and MAGGIE KOCHANOWICZ, according to his baptism certficate dated July 24 1893 at Saint Mary's of the Assumption Church in Waco. Does anyone know more about FRANK STRUGALA and MAGGIE KOCHANOWICZ? I surmise that they were members of the Bremond families of those names but know little else. As a child I knew my great-uncle ED STRUGALA, a merchant seaman who lived in Galveston and was married to my grandmother's sister ELSE FRIDA BADROW. There is an interesting and well-documented account of the sinking of Uncle Ed's banana freighter, the Ruth Lykes, by a U-boat off the coast on Honduras in May 1942, the day after my sixth birthday. Uncle Ed was among the survivors who was helped by the crew and skipper of the U-boat, Werner Winter, a well-known German naval officer. Researching that led me to seek out more of Uncle Ed's ancestry. Everyone in his generation so far as I know is now dead. Many thanks for any leads.
