Posted on: Robertson County Texas Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/RobertsonObits/41 Surname: Moss, Waugh, Johnson, Robertson ------------------------- Samuel Osmer Moss, a native of Robertson County, Texas, passed away at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 8 days, thus bringing to a close an era of Moss family history. He was a member of a large family and was the last survivor of his generation. He was born in the Five Points Community, July 16, 1889, on the family farm which was purchased by his grandfather in 1825. He lived on the same farm (except for short periods of time when he was employed away from the area) until 1973 when he moved to Hearne. He became a resident of Four Seasons Nursing Home in Hondo in 1979, and passed away at Medina Memorial Hospital in Hondo on August 24, 1985. After being converted at the age of 33 by a Methodist Circuit rider, Mr. Moss became actively involved in establishing the Five Points Baptist Church. He was a deacon for more than 50 years and a devout Christian until his death. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne Tuesday, August 27 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Fridel of Five Points Baptist Church and the Rev. Bill Agee of First Baptist Church of Hearne officiating. His granddaughter Patricia Moss, of Moundville, AL sang one of his favorite hymns, "In the Garden." Burial was in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, James Lee Moss of Harlingen, Dr. Roger H. Moss Jr., of Decatur, AL, Joel R. Moss of Bishop, S. Cameron Moss of Bryan, Richard Garrett of Austin, Gary McGregor and Randy McGregor, both of Five Points and Revis Goodwin of Pasadena, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edna Johnson Moss; one daughter, Nannie Louise McGregor; an infant son and two grandchildren. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Lee and Thelma, James and Lucille and Sam and Sarah, all of Hondo, and Roger and June of Moundville, AL. Daughters, Mrs. Bonner (Frances) Garrett of Hearne, and Mrs. H. C. (Eunice) Lloyd Sr. and Mrs. Faye Goodwin, both of Pasadena; and a son-in-law, Walter McGregor of Five Points. Also surving are two more grandsons, H.C. Lloyd Jr. of Saudi Arabia and Wesley Goodwin of Florida. Other granddaughters are Mary Moss Marcelli and Janice Moss of Hondo, Connie Moss of Rankin, Laura Moss Stuebing of Dunlay, Linda Moss Donnelly of Connecticut, Dr. Rebekah Moss Fletcher of Louisiana, Lila Goodwin Hotchkiss of New York, Karen Goodwin Easley of North Carolina, Susan Goodwin of Pasadena, and 14 greatgrandchildren.
