Offutt is Held Tuesday Mrs. Ellen M. Offutt, a resident of Beeville for more than 50 years, died at the family home Monday morning at 4 o'clock. A month ago Mrs. Offutt was stricken with a heart attack from which she never rallied. Her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Francis of Kingsville, wife of Dr. W. A. Francis who is head of the English Department of Texas A&I College had remained with her constantly from the beginning of her illness until her transition. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Paden P. Dawson, pastor, being in charge of the rites. Interment was in Glenwood cemetery, and the active pallbearers were Marion Young, Davis Delony, George Burlew, Rex Davis, Claude L. Kimbrough, Geo. H. Atkins, Clarence Miller, and Lee Adams. The funeral was under the direciton of Walker Funeral Home. Mrs. Offutt was born in Hearne, Texas in 1860. Her maiden name was Ellen M. Moss. She was a daughter of the late Samuel R. and Lydia McKnight Moss (of Robertson County). In 1886, she was married to Dr. George W. Offutt in Hearne. Dr. Offutt died a few years later, and approximately 50 years ago Mrs. Offutt moved to Beeville. Several years ago Mrs. Offutt went to Kingsville to make her home with her daughter, but returned to Beeville the latter part of 1945 when her sister, Miss Georgia Moss, was injured in a fall. Mrs. Offutt came to Bee County in the pioneer days, and she always retained the friendly spirit of the early settlers and the desire to be of service to those with whom she came in contact. She had been a member of the Beeville Presbyterian Church since the first year of its existence, and remained a constant worker in that denomination thorughout the intervening years. Mrs. Offutt is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Francis of Kingsville, two sisters, Miss Georgia Moss of Beeville, and Mrs. A. F. Lutts of San Antonio, and three grandchildren: William A. Francis Jr. of Washington D.C., Offutt Francis of Kingsville, and Ensign George C. Francis, USNR, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Browne and Miss Frankie Lutts of San Antonio, Dr. and Mrs. John L. Nierman, Mrs. S.V. Burks, Mrs. Hale Harrell, and Mrs. John Conner, Kingsville; and Mrs. Elizabeth Nations Roth, Thibodeaux, La.
