    1. [TX ROBERTSON] Campbell Family in Robertson Co
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AlB.2ACE/502 Message Board Post: I have Campbell ancestors that settled in Robertson Co., TX early in Texas History, but it seems the Campbell family disappeared from Robertson Co., and no one now knows about them. Ruthy Campbell received a league and labor of land in Texas. On Feb 15, 1838, "the administrator of her estate proved that she arrived in this country in 1829, and was a widow entitled to one league of land". Ruthy's 177 acre Headright land on Campbell's Creek was sold Jan 28, 1841 and the deed states that Ruthy lived there before her death. The deed reads "Know all men by these presents that we Henderson Campbell, Walter Campbell, Nathan Campbell, Squire Campbell, and George Robertson are held and family bound ---" I'm not sure of the relationship of all these men. I think Nathaniel was Ruthy's son, and I know Nathan administered the estate of his brother Squire in 1845. Nathan's daughter Eliza, my G Grandmother, sold the league of land located in Stephens and Young Co. in 1877. The Probate records for the land are listed in the Young Co., index, but the papers are lost. I have found descendants of Nathaniel's daughters Mary Jane and Eliza, and a little on Nioma and Canzaddie, but I have found no information on his sons James, William or Charles. Nathaniel died Aug 10, 1870, and his widow Milly and daughter Canzaddie was living with Nioma and her husband John Layne in Coryell County in 1880. Family stories about Ruthy say she was mentioned in Texas History books for some of her deeds during the Texas Revolution. I have heard these stories from different family lines that have not been in contact with each other since the early 1900s. If anyone has any information about this family, please contact me. Thanks, Larry

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: PEEL, HARRIS, HOUSE, MCDONALD Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AlB.2ACE/501 Message Board Post: W. O. HARRIS married MARGARET MCDONALD (Peel? Jones?) in, we assume but have been as yet unable to prove, Wayne County, Missississippi about 1883 if the date in her father's estate papers is correct. They moved to Texas in time to be on the 1900 Robertson County census. That census shows Obe and Margaret with children KATY, 15, daughter, born in Texas; Lee T (Lee Terrell), 12, born in Texas; PEEL, ELLO???, stepdaughter, born Jan 1875, in Texas. The 1910 census shows OBE and MARGARET, still in Pct. 3, with daughter BERTHA PEEL, age 27, widow, born in Texas; daughter KATIE HOUSE, 23, widow, born in Texas. I know when OBE and MARGARET and LEE TERRELL died, as well as an unnamed infant daughter, and all are buried in Henry Prairie. Obe's mother, MARY L. HARRIS is also buried there. Where I have hit a brick wall is with the stepdaugher? ELLO??, and daughters Bertha and Katie. They will be the next subjects of my visit to the courthouse in Franklin, but any hints or clues as to hubbies and their status will be greatly appreciated. Given the date Obe and Margaret married, I doubt that Ellao?? Peel is Obe's daughter, most likely that of Margaret's previous (and as yet unidentified) husband(s?) Could she by any chance be the Elizabeth Peel I find in the county? I can't make her into BERTHA PEEL widow, it just doesn't fit, darn it! Nan

Surnames: Lawler, Lalor, Mendenhall, Bartlett, Sumner, Hatch, Gilman, Trow, Caldwell, Badger, Charles, Ludiker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AlB.2ACE/498 Message Board Post: Hi fellow genealogists! I’m a genealogist just like you are. This is kind of long, but well worth reading! I found a way to use FOIA in genealogy to request records that actually results in moving your search along. In my every day professional work I use the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to acquire records from all areas. The FOIA is a tool that is available to everyone. The request is free but it can be very confusing. You have to know where to send it, you have to have the right request form, a properly worded letter, you have to know what type of information they need to get you what you are looking for. You cannot just send in a generic "find this" request. Using the proper request, the proper form, a properly worded letter you will get the documentation you are seeking. I received 84 pages in the first probate request, two weeks later, an additional 124 pages. All stuff they copied from microfiche. At $ .10 per page. Some of these records went back to 1838. I will send you the forms (both State and Federal), the request letter, what you need to send them in terms of specifics, if you have them, or if not, where and how to find them. I have compiled a list of each State’s statutes and codes that you will need to reformat the request form for your particular State or the State you are sending the request to. I have included some specific searching directions and examples that may help you. For those of us who have been unable to get to an out-of-town location or to afford a researcher it's great. My email is [email protected] or [email protected] Please only use these for responses. I’ll be happy to answer questions! I will be happy to help anyone with any additional information or reformatting the forms for other states, other data requests, etc. Any other requests for help, I will send a form. I am requesting $6.58 for paper, copying, assembly, large envelope, and postage costs. This package of information is 22+ pages (and growing) -- and I had no idea this would be responded to in such huge numbers (!!). So, if you’re interested, send $6.58, personal check is ok, [Kathy Lawler] to Genealogy Princess, 20757 Camden Square, #210, Lathrup Village, MI 48076 or use my Paypal address [checking] for $7.00 to [email protected] Either way, don’t forget your address!! I will send you the information the very day I receive your address and funds. Lastly, additional information, new ways I can come up with to use FOIA will be sent to you free of charge and I’ll also be happy to answer any questions you may have. This is strictly to get you information that will help you gather documents and information to further your search for your ancestors. Thanks! Kathleen Lawler
