    2. Many thanks to Allen Grant and to Mr. Brunette for your replies to my question about Owensville. I'll be visiting the sites you suggested. While I'm at it, is anyone familiar with Christmas Creek? Ancestor Hiram W. Cooke had a land grant there in the 1850s. Thanks again, Karen Trouvat -- in France

    3. I just read with interest about the Yellow Fever epidemic in 1873. Would this be the same epidemic that was in Houston County in 1868 through 1871? I have several members of one family that died in that period and have not been able to find out what disease was running so rampid at that time. 3. Karen.... While I can not tell you much about Owensville, I can shed a little light on the town. I have written some history of my GRANT family who lived in Grant's Prairie, a spot along the road just outside of Owensville where the old homestead was located. The Grant family is buried in a small cemetery inside of the Owensville Cemetery. My summary can be found at: http://home.houston.rr.com/agrant/genealogy/clangran.htm You might also want to read the book on the History of Robertson County, Texas by J W Baker....the Clayton Library in Houston has it. Allen <'\\\>< http://home.houston.rr.com/agrant/homepage2 I don't know it until I know it, But when I know it, I know it. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2003 1:53 AM Subject: [TX ROBERTSON] Cooke Garrard Owensville Hi Listfolks, Would anyone know about the origins/history of the town of Owensville? My ancestor Hiram W. Cooke came (back) from Limestone and Coryell Counties and resided there at his marriage to his second wife, Mary Ann Niebling Collard in 1868. Hiram W. Cooke's daughter from his first marriage (to Jane C. Jenkins) died with her husband and at least one of her children in the 1873 Yellow fever epidemic and is buried in the Owensville cemetery. She was Jane Wilds Garrard, wife of Thomas Garrard. I'm not sure where Thomas Garrard is buried... 3. I am hoping someone can aid me on my quest!! I am trying to find out the history of Henry Praire, and the town of Wheelock, Robertson Co., TX between the dates of the late 1860's and early 1900's. What I am looking for exactly is was there an actual town and when it developed for Henry Prairie. What was life like for the people who lived in Henry Prairie and Wheelock during the times I've mentioned. Was there a railroad nearby? Did it stop in Wheelock? How far did a person have to travel to go to a general store? Or was there one in Wheelock. Were these areas farming communities? What kind of crops? Livestock? Were there outlaws in Wheelock? What about Henry Prairie? You get the idea. I am requesting this information so that I may add it to my family tree (kinda boring if I just have a bunch of names of my ancestors, and small snips of their lifes here and there) I would like for my future generations to get a good understanding of how life was like. Oh, and if anyone has early photographs of either area, I would love to have a copy of them. Am willing to pay for postage, copy fees, etc. Thank you very much. Regards, Janice (My Holiday/Holidy/Holliday line is from Robertson Co.)

    1. [TX ROBERTSON] WOODS FAMILY OF TX
    2. My grandmother, EULA WOODS FULTON b 1872 in Robertson County was a daughter of JOHN W. WOODS b 1838 in MS (some records say TX) d 1891 in Robertson County, TX. & CAROLINE JACKSON b 1845-49 in AL d about 1886 in Robertson County. JOHN W .WOODS was a son of John Woods & Allie Winbourne Woods & a brother to James Addison Woods of Franklin, TX.. James Addison Woods had a son FRANK WOODS b 1881-2 in Franklin& d in 1976. He was a prominent Attorney in Franklin. My family has spoken frequently about this. Apparently at one time years ago his office was burned out & genealogy info he had researched was lost. As I understand it from genealogy collected by former resident Sid Jackson b 1905 in Franklin, Frank Woods recovered & published his complete WOODS genealogy. I also understand that the WOODS home was recently renovated by descendants. While I have received info on Frank Woods himself, I am interested in finding the WOODS research he did. This would knock down some brickwalls. I am willing to pay a price for this information. My grandmother was very connected to her TX roots, as I am. Regards, Richard Harris
