Hello List: My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas H. Welch, born MO. 1824. We think his wife was Amanda Middlebrook. They married about 1847-1848. Their first child, Charles Ibzan Welch, was born in Robertson County, July 12, 1849. This family is listed on the Robertson County TX Census for 1850. There was a daughter, Sarah Jane Welch, born December 15, 1850 and another daughter, Harriet Calistine Welch born about 1851-1852. It appears that Amanda died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. Thomas tried to keep the family together but found he needed assistance. He moved to KARNES COUNTY, TX. He would have stayed with William H. Garrett, brother in law to his wife, or with Jane C. Crawford Middlebrook Galloway, his mother in law. I feel the three children may have been with the Garrett's Thomas paid tax on his belongings in 1855. He is involved in a lawsuit over a wagon that he built and sold to a Mr. A. J. Lee, but Mr. Lee died before he could pay for it. Thomas sued the Estate in Karnes County in October of 1857. There is no further evidence of Thomas after this time. Jane Crawford Middlebrook Galloway paid the taxes on Thomas Welch's cattle and possessions in 1859 , for the children. In April, 1859, Jane Galloway went to the District Court of Karnes County , TX., to ask for Guardianship of the Three surviving children, Charles I. Welch, Sarah Jane Welch and Harriet Calistine Welch. In 1864 at age 13 Sarah Jane Welch marries Thomas Jefferson Cavender. They live in Hays , Bexar and finally Frio County. In the late 1860's Harriet Calistine Welch marries Bryant Sirmons, a man some 40 years her senior. No trace is found of Charles I. Welch until 1880 when he is found in Brown County with his wife Mary Elizabeth Ratliff and young son, John Byrd Welch. I need any information you could give me on any of these families. Welch, Sirmon, Middlebrook, Cavender. I want to document that Amanda is indeed the person and wife we think she is....I desperately need any information on Thomas Welch and Harriet C. Welch. I want to find Thomas H. Welch's ancestors....as far back as I can. I hope you can help. JoRetta Lewis Texas

I have a document dated 1891 to memorialize the passing of a brother in Masonic Lodge in Franklin, TX. JOHN WOODS b 1838 in MS (some records say TX) & died 1891 in TX. Some of wording is hard to read. JOHN WOODS was my Great-grandfather m first to Caroline M. Jackson about 1868-69. Caroline died in 1882-83 & John Woods m a Minerva Winn. He was survived by his wife Minerva Winn & a daughter A.Woods by his second wife. 3 daughters & 3 sons survived from his first wife. Query:: I cannot find John Woods or members of his family on any census taken in 1870; 1880; 1890 nor any census in Tx or elsewhere. Where were they? Nor do I find the family of Caroline JACKSON Woods on any census past 1860. I have tried birth records; marriage records; but it seems they just vanished. John Woods second wife Minerva was found on the 1920 census in Robertson County remarried with last name of Jacques. Where else do I look for this elusive WOODS line of Franklin, TX.? Any help is appreciated. Thank You, DHarris

Her mother remarried after John died to Henry Perkins. Henry Perkins and Nancy Jane Lewis supposedly are buried near Pidgeon Roost, Sand Hill Texas. Not sure if it is a cemetery or just family land. Amanda married Franklin Posey McCanless in Dec 1885 in Robertson County Texas. They had one son Jeff Howard McCanless born in 1886 in Robertson County Texas. Another researcher has told me that Amanda died about 1892 in Groesbeck Texas which is in Limestone County. I have called Limestone and Robertson County clerks offices and found out their death records start in 1903 and 1900 respectively. I am posting this message in this message board in hopes that someone will recognize the people listed above and be able to fill in my blanks as to what happened to Amanda and hopefully know where she might be buried. I know that Henry Perkins, her step-father and Nancy Jane Lewis Parker Perkins had children of their own. All I know is her half siblings names are Catrino Perkins, Calvin Thomas Perkins, William Warren Perkins, Nancy P. Perkins and Laura Mollie Perkins. Amanda had a full sister living in this household name Mary Parker who married Henry Spurling Johnston. Maybe there will be some descendents of these people doing research that might know something. If so, I will be very greatful. Thank you, Cheryl Wilcox

Judy, have you obtained a copy of his Texas Death Certificate? It asks for the names of the deceased's father and mother. If he was still living with his daughter when he died, she probably provided information for his death certificate and there's a good chance she knew who her grandparents were. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AlB.2ACE/528 Message Board Post: Hi, My aunt has a grandfather named Sterling Jack STRANGE (or perhaps Starlin Jack or Sterling Jack). She can't find anything about his parents or siblings and we can't find him in the 1880 U.S. Federal Census despite much searching in archives, microfilmed censuses, online, etc. Jack (as he was usually called) was born in Texas in January 1856, according to the 1900 U.S. Federal Census for Robertson County, Texas. His father was listed as being born in Georgia and his mother was listed as having been born in Alabama.(However, the 1900 census for Robertson county, Texas, said that his father was born in Alabama and his mother was born in Mississippi. By the 1920 census, also in Robertson County, Texas, both parents were listed as having been born in Alabama.) We have the same problem with Jack's birthdate. Although the census said he was born in January 1856, his tombstone says he was born in 1850. His age in the family bible is very difficult to read. It says he was born January 31, 1850 (or maybe 1854) and has been crossed out to read 1856. There seems to be some confusion about his year of birth, but his ages as listed in the censuses for 1900-1910-1920 support a birth year of 1856. Starling Jack STRANGE's marriage is listed in courthouse records on 12 November 1878 in Falls County, Texas, with "no return". He married Nannie E. WEATHERLY (or maybe, WEATHERBY)on 14 November 1878, according to his family bible. Nannie E. WEATHERLY (WEATHERBY?) was born in 1850 and died in 1910, according to her tombstone. The 1900 census for Nannie said that she was born in Texas in November, 1858. Her age in the 1900 census supports a birth in 1858 but the family bible says she was born 5 October 1851. She seems to have fibbed about her age on censuses, unless her husband put the wrong birth year. He wrote most of the entries but apparently all at once, so errors could creep in. The family bible says that Nannie died 29 April 1910. Nannie's parents were both born in Alabama, according to the censuses for 1900 and 1910. These children were born to Starling Jack STRANGE and Nannie E. WEATHERLY (or WEATHERBY).Dates come from the family bible and are supported in censuses. 1. Carie Glendarie STRANGE was born 17 December 1879. She married Hiram? A. WALKER 3 December 1896. 2. Jettie Jewell STRANGE was born 14 December 1881. She married Duncan (Dunkin)Littleton CLARK 21 September 1898. She died 8 November 1951 in Marlin, Falls, Texas. Jettie was the mother of my aunt, so we have information on her children and descendants. 3. Lula Mattie STRANGE was born 12 March 1884 and died 2 August 1900. 4. George Silas STRANGE was born 3 November 1896 and died 17 June 1966. All the children were born in Texas. Starling Jack STRANGE and his wife Nannie E. WEATHERLY were living in Robertson County, Texas, at the time of the 1900-1910 censuses. The widowed Starling Jack STRANGE and an unknown girl named Hashie ?? STRANGE were boarders in his married daughter (Jettie Jewell STRANGE CLARK's house in Bremond, Robertson County, Texas at the time of the 1920 census. Wolf and Myra Smith which took place in Robertson County on 2 Jul 1875. I know that this was the second marriage for Mr. Wolf as he was married to Sarah Adams, daughter of John Quincy and Elizabeth Avarillo Tinnin Adams. I believe the first marriage took place in Izard County AR as Asa's first child, a daughter Georgia A. Wolf was born in AR in 1864. Evidently Asa and his wife Sarah Adams came to Texas with Sarah's parents and perhaps she died in the county. Their second child a son Urah Lee Wolf was suppose to be born in TX in 1869. I believe the Adams wagon train came to Texas in 1867. They were in Milam, Bell, and Coryell counties, also. I have no idea who the parents of Myra Smith were but the marriage records shows they married in Robertson County. She and Asa are found in Coryell County for the 1880 census and have a son Wilie age 4 and a daughter Mittie age two. Parents of Asa M. Wolf were George Washi! ngton and Malinda McFelch Wolf. G.W. Wolf also had two daughters who married and lived in Milam County. Sarah Jane Wolf married Dr. J.P.H. Wallis and Jane Wolf married Dr. Sapp of Cameron, TX. George Washington Wolf had a sister Amanda Wolf Tinnin of Bell and Bosque counties and he had a half braother, Martin Jefferson Wolf of Anderson County.
