This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AlB.2ACE/533 Message Board Post: I am looking for the family of Oliver "Ollie" Woolford Russell. I am a granddaughter of his son Robert Cecil Russell. Oliver Woolford Russell was married to an Amanda "Mandy" Jane Cheatham. I have an aunt that is named for her. My grandmother says that after Amanda died in 1935, Oliver Russell remarried to an Edith Barnett whose child was stolen by her ex-husband (or something like that). I know for a time that the Oliver Russell family lived in San Augustine County, Texas and possibly even Nacogdoches. My grandpa Robert and his wife lived most of their married life in Mumford Texas just outside of Hearne in Robertson County, Texas. They did live for a short period of time of three years in Odessa, Texas >From a family tree that I found on the internet, Oliver's parents were supposedly J. William "Bill" Russell b. Oct 1853 in Florida and Martha B Annie "Augie" Davis b Oct 1859 in Louisiana. They were married July 25, 1878 in Robertson County, Texas according to the information I found. I cannot substantiate any of this though. The information also says that Oliver Russell's siblings included Duggie, William Wesley "Will", Douglas, Lizzie, Frank, and Paul "Bud". And that Oliver's dad J. William Russell had the following siblings: Ira A, J. W. b. 1848 in Alabama, and Andrew b 1850 in Alabama. And that J William's parents were both born in Florida. Again, I cannot substantiate any of this. The story my grandmother tells me is that Robert Cecil Russell and his siblings: Emmit Henry, Fannie, William Bedford, Alma Louise, Cevilia Norene, Marcie Douglas, Jesse James, Irene Vessie, Ruby were all very closed mouth about their family. She said that she thought the reason was that the family had done something they were ashamed of and did not want to talk about it. She also said that J. William Russell came to Texas as a teenage boy with his brother John Russell and his dad. John was an artist and went to California and was in the movies. She also said that Paul "Bud" Russell (Olivers brother) is buried in the Elliot cemetery in (I guess) Robertson County. Can anyone please help me with this family? Thank you Sara Mattice
BELL - BENSON - McMILLAN - PARKER In 1880, Mark Bell and his mother, Sophronia Bell, were enumerated in district 141 of Robertson Co., TX. Sophronia (McMillan) Bell (Jan. 1813, GA - 14 Jul 1888, TX) was my great, great-grandmother. Where was district 141? Mark was not on the 1900 census, and his fate in unknown. Was he married? Did he die in TX? Sophronia was buried in Shiloh Cemetery, alongside her daughter, Catherine Parker (1849-1917), whose husband, James W. Parker, was buried alongside Catherine. Catherine died in Franklin. James and Catherine Parker were the neighbors of Mark and Sophronia in 1880. Catherine had first married a Benson. Are there any descendants of (1) Catherine (Bell) Benson / Parker, (2) Mark Bell, (3) or Sophronia (McMillan) Bell out there, who could communicate back with me? My dad's maternal grandfather (my great-grandfather), John Murphy Bell (1841-1895), was a brother of Catherine, and a son of Sophronia. It would be nice to touch base. Also, are there any extant photos of any of these individuals? Thank you in advance. _________________________________________________________________ Instant message in style with MSN Messenger 6.0.
