    1. [TX ROBERTSON] RUSSELL, STARKEY, GRAVES in TN, AL, TX
    2. Rhonda Lane
    3. Posted on: Robertson County Texas Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Robertson/324 Surname: RUSSELL, STARKEY, GRAVES ------------------------- Hi! We are researching the RHODA STARKEY RUSSELL family who moved to Limestone and then Robsertson Counties, TX from Jackson Co Al; and earlier from Warren Co TN and Oglethorpe Co GA. We have the 1860 Stephenson, Jackson Co AL census record listing RHODA RUSSELL, age 36 (born Feb1821 in Warren Co TN and died 6Jul1900 - buried in the Eutaw, Limestone Co TX cemetery) as head of household with children. Also listed was SUSAN RUSSELL, age 65 - born abt 1795 in TN. Rhoda's dwelling was amid her STARKEY family and on their land. We are thinking that Susan may have been Rhoda's mother in law. We do not have the names of Rhoda's or Susan's husbands, so the RUSSELL search is difficult. I have heard both C.H. RUSSELL and JAMES H. RUSSELL as the husband of Rhoda. George Ely mentioned that there was a James H. Russell living nearby in the same township as our Russells. RHODA STARKEY RUSSELL's Children: JOHN (John W)- born abt 1847; Married 1)Kate Bolton, daugher of CAPTAIN SEVIER BOLTON and wife MISSOURIE CAROLINA RUTHERFORD. Had two children, JAMES B. and C.S. Russell Married 2) N.C. and had four children who died very young. I have found J W RUSSELL and ZONA RUSSELL buried in the Lorenzo Cemetery in Lorenzo, Crosby Co, TX. The date of birth would be close to that of John W.'s We know from the 1860 Jackson Co AL census that he was born abt. 1847. The date of birth listed in that cemetery was 1-3-1847. Also, Zona Russell filed for Confederate Pension in Crosby Co for her husband, John Weldon Russell. The claim was rejected. I feel that this may be our John, as my grandmother said that John moved to the Plain around Ralls TX and died there. She also said that he had a daugher who lived in Silverton TX and died there in the 1960s or 70s. SARAH (Sarah Elizabeth) born 28Aug1850 AL - died 31Jul1942, Eutaw Cemetery. Married RUFUS WARREN GUNN. JAMES (James Calvin) born 7Mar1853 AL and died 23Dec1910 in Terrell TX - buried Eutaw Cemetery. Married 1) JOSEPHINE ADAMS and had two children. Josephine died in childbirth with their son, GEORGE I. (buried Eutaw Cemetery). Their daughter MINNIE, (born abt 1879)drown in a well at about the age of 7 in Limestone Co TX. We have not found her grave. Married 2) KATHERINE "KATIE" FRAZIER GRAVES born 28Aug1864 to JC GRAVES and CARRIE Unknown. James Calvin and Katie Russell had 7 children: CHARLES ARMSTRONG, ZULA MAE, WILLIE IOLA, JESSE BAKER (changed is name from ANDREW JACKSON), JAMES BRAXTON "Jay", LEE ROY "Roy", and RHODA ARIZONA "Zona". The first six were born in Limestone Co and Zona was born in Robertson Co. Katie and the children moved to Turkey, Hall Co TX, and they are all buried in the Dreamland Cemetery there. Katie's father, JC GRAVES, was listed in the 1880 Limestone Co Census with children: A.H. (ALEX), age 27; KATIE, age 14; SAM'L, age 12; and BETTY age 8. Carrie Unknown(Frazier?) supposedly died in Clarksville, Red River CO TX around 1775. I cannot find any records or burial for her there. I have gotten information that Rhoda was the daughter of JOHN STARKEY and was of the JOHN STARKEY family from Oglethorpe Co GA. I have looked at many lines of Starkeys and know that Rhoda was of the "J" Starkeys, but don't have much information on the Starkeys that I have substantiated. If anyone feels that you can help me with putting together these STARKEY, RUSSELL or GRAVES lines, PLEASE do respond! I have limited information, but am willing to share all that I do have and all that I find! Feel free to email me directly and I will continue to refer to this site, also. Thank you ~ Happy Hunting! Sincerely, Rhonda S. Lane :)

Would somebody please follow-up on this. The cemetary is a huge disappointment and in very bad shape. Respecfully, Ms Cassandra Wells cwells9940@aol.com

    2. William Kent Brunette
    3. The Robertson County RootsWeb Site at www.rootsweb.com/~txrober2 continues to expand. Mary Kathryn Spiller Briggs' "The Irish of Staggers Point" book was placed online yesterday thanks to the efforts of volunteer Harold Walker. A new "chat feature" has also been added to the welcome page. While this feature might be used for general discussions, family researchers may wish to schedule online chats to compare notes about Robertson County-related research (and save on long distance charges). Lots more information is on the way. Volunteers are working on the Wheelock, Bremond, & Calvert City Cemetery lists. Other volunteers are typing/scanning two books: "Ghost Towns of Robertson County" & "History of Robertson County" (a 1931 University of Texas master's thesis by Lawrence Ward St. Clair that most researchers have not seen). Others are working to bring Robertson County's Immigration & Naturalization records as well as the county's Divorce records online. Since census data is so important to genealogy research, I recently purchased copies of the actual census records for the years 1850, 1860, 1870, & 1880. Early next year, the original handwritten census data for these years will be available online at the Robertson County site. The site already contains a typed list of 1840 census names and a typed transcript of the 1850 census. Another volunteer is busy working on typing/scanning an 1860 census transcript that was produced by Mary Collie-Cooper. Other projects are in the offing and lots more needs to be done. If you'd like to volunteer to adopt a cemetery or to help in any way, please go to volunteer opportunities or contact me at genealogy@usablenews.com. Thanks. 3. Posted on: Robertson County Texas Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Robertson/301 Surname: Glenda Argo ------------------------- It was brought to my attention by a friend that you were looking for directions to the Henry - Peyton Cememtery in Robertson County. I do not have any relatives there, but am very familiar with the cemetery's location. If you are coming from Bryan: Take Hwy 6 North to the OSR exit and exit there. You will come to a stop sign at OSR, where you will need to take a left. This will take you under Hwy 6. Take the first right, as you come out from under the Hwy 6 over pass. You will be on the west feeder road going north again. You will come to a stop sign and need to take a left. The road you are turning left on is Spur 231. My saddle shop (Saddle House)is to the right after you make the left turn. You will follow Spur 231 through the Benchley Community. You will pass Harding Rd. and Bench Lane. Further down, the road will make a sharp right turn and then a sharp left and you will go over the railroad tracks. You will dead-end into Old Hearne Road. You will take a right on Old Hearne Road and go north again until you come to Mumford - Benchley Rd. on your left. You need to turn left and follow Mumford - Benchley Rd. until you come to a sharp right turn. Peyton Rd. is to your left at this point and Mumford - Benchley Rd. continues to the right. You turn left and follow Peyton Rd. a short distance and the Henry - Peyton Cemetery is on the right. Coming from Hearne: You will be going south on Hwy 6 and get off at the OSR exit. As you come down the exit ramp, my saddle shop is to your right. You need to take a right on Spur 231 just past my shop, but before you get to OSR. After you turn right onto Spur 231, follow the directions above from that point through the Benchley Community Good luck and if you get lost, give me a call at (979)778-0732. J.R. Henry
