Posted on: Robertson County Texas Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Robertson/339 Surname: BUSBY, SEELEY ------------------------- I was told that there used to be a place called Busby Hollow located in Robertson Co. Does anyone know anything about such a place? I found this information in the Geographic Reference Library. I'm assuming that it was a small community where people lived. My Busbys came to Falls County around 1850 and I am trying to put the pieces together. It seems that there were two separate Busby families in Falls County about the same time. My line came from KY while the other family seems to have come from NC/SC/AL. I'm especially trying to find the grave site of David T. Busby who died somewhere in the surrounding counties about 1854. His 2nd wife was Sarah L. Gray Seeley, widow of Dr. David Seeley. After David Busby died, Sarah may have married a minister by the surname of Outlaw. Can anyone help?

    3. Posted on: Robertson County Texas Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Robertson/331 Surname: WELLS, WILLS, WHITED, WHITEHEAD, FOSTER ------------------------- Bob, Thanks so much for this informtion. I would greatly appreciate your look-ups. My family names would be John WELLS(or WILLS)and his family. One of his sons was named Oliver. My ggg grandmother was probably there as well. Her name was Leah and her last name may have been WHITED or WHITEHEAD at the time. If you have ANY information to show my family living in the Foster home, I would really like to get it. By the way, in the pamphlet for the Fort Worth Log Cabin Village, there is information on the FOSTER CABIN. It reads: "Harry A. Foster was born in 1814, in Tennessee. While living in Mississippi, he married Martha Ann Davis and together they had six children. In the latter part of 1852, the family made the long wagon trip to their new home near Port Sullivan, Texas, in Milam County. The Fosters built this two-story, nine room log home in the 1850's from the large oaks and cedars which grew in the Brazos River bottoms. The lean-to addition was built with lumber purchased from a mil in Port Sullivan. In 1969 Joseph William Foster, Jr., the great-grandson of Harry and Martha, donated the log home for restoration at the Village." The cabin is there in the village. As I mentioned in my last message, I have a book with more information that I got from the gift shop when I visited the cabin. Thanks again for your help.

    3. Posted on: Robertson County Texas Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Robertson/330 Surname: Foster, Davis, Fore, Thomason, Mitchell, Jackson, Ancell, Baugh, Langford, Lambert, Garrett, Newman, Walker ------------------------- Hi, C. G. I'll try to help in anyway that I can. Yes, we are clearly talking about the same Fosters. There is some controversy about whether Joseph Ancell Foster was a son of Henry's or an adopted nephew, but I guess that is only of marginal interest to you. My people are mostly white/Indian and not African (as far as I know). I do know that Henry A. Foster was a slave owner back in MS and then in TX. If you look at the 1870 census for Milam Co. you'll see that he has a lot of black neighbors, some named Foster and some not. If you give me some of the names you are looking for I'll go through my records and see what I can turn up. I have copies of old wills and estate settlements that do list some of the slaves that Henry Ancell Foster acquired at the death of his older brother Joseph Foster. They are only first names, of course, but who knows we might get lucky and find a match. Unfortunately, I've never heard about the cabin you mentioned so I can't be of much help there. You are right about Joseph being a banker in Robertson Co., (Calvert, I believe), and he lived to about 1930 and had many children. He was a Methodist and was associated with that church.

    1. [TX ROBERTSON] Stem, Grubbs, Gray, Ivy in McLennen, Robertson, Scurry and Lynn Counties, Texas
    2. Rhonda Lane
    3. Posted on: Robertson County Texas Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Robertson/327 Surname: Stem, Grubbs, Ivy ------------------------- Hi! We are researching the above names in Robertson, McLennon, Limestone, Scurry and Lynn Counties, Texas. We have limited information, but would be more than willing to share what we have or what we find! The information that we do have is this: MORGAN WHITLEY "M.W." GRUBBS, born abt 1864 McLennon Co TX, married TALITHA ELLEN STEM, born abt 1868 Robertson Co TX. They had a daughter, ANNIE ELIZABETH GRUBBS, born near Headsville, Robertson Co TX, in 1889. M. W. GRUBBS remarried ANNIE REESE in McLennon Co TX in 1891. ANNIE ELIZABETH GRUBBS' birth certificate stated that her mother, Talitha, had 4 births and 2 live children. J. W. STEM was a witness on the affidavit to secure Annie Elizabeth Grubbs' birth certificate in 1943. Family says that there was an A. J. GRUBBS who was either Annie's brother or cousin. I found A. J. GRUBBS in the McLennon marriage records around 1890 at the same time that M.W. married a second time to Annie Reese. (This A.J. GRUBBS would be from the earlier genration than Annie - possibly and uncle). I think that ISAAC PHILLIP STEM is either Talitha's father or grandfather. He is buried in the Headsville, Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Robertson Co TX with his wife and other STEMS. We have not found where Talitha is buried nor do we know her date or place of death. Here is the information on Isaac Phillip Stem from the cemetery lising: "STEM, ISAAC PHILLIP, 05.23.1819 – 11.23.1893, w Lucy Ann Weaks, historical marker reads: "Tennessee native Isaac Phillip Stem enlisted in Western Frontier service in that state in 1836. In October 1836, he moved to Texas and joined the Republic of Texas Army at Houston. Continuing to serve in the military, Stem was a participant in the Battle of Plum Creek on 8.12.1840, in present Caldwell County. The battle was fought between Texas soldiers and Comanche Indians, who had raided the coastal towns of Linnville and Victoria. Stem served in the Somervell Campaign of 1841 and was a member of a cavalry of mounted volunteers during the Mexican War. After his discharge from the Texas troops in 1846, Stem joined the US Infantry at Corpus Christi, Texas and continued in the war with Mexico. Discharged at Monterey due to illness, he later returned to Tennessee and joined the Tennessee Volunteers at Memphis. He later transferred into the US Infantry once again. Isaac Phillip Stem and his wife, Lucy Ann Weaks, were the parents of eight children. The family moved to Robertson County in 1869 and Stem became a farmer and rancher. He died in 1893 and was buried here beside his wife." (#10949/1988)" http://www.rootsweb.com/~txrober2/WESLEYCHAPELCEMETERY.htm The Family Tree Maker listing the descendants of JACOB STEM, lists Isaac Phillip in the history, as well as TALITHA ADELINE STEM being a 3rd generation grand daughter. The STEM descendants's list can be found here: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/t/e/Thomas-W-Stem/COL1-0008.html The JACOB STEM family tree can be found here: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/i/l/Valerie-P-Gildehaus/GENE1-0004.htm ANNIE ELIZABETH GRUBBS married JOHN W. IVY. They had 2 girls that we know of: LOTTI ONETA IVY and JONNIE IVY. They lived in SCURRY Co TX. JOHN W. IVY's parents were DORA IVY and MARTIN MASSEY "M.M." IVY. We do not know where they were born. LOTTI ONETA IVY married MARVIN GARY in Scurry Co TX. They had four children: VIRGINIA, DOROTHY INEZ, TOMMY and JOHN. Lotti Oneta died in Scurry Co TX around 1937. We know little about this IVY family. If anyone thinks that they can help in research of these names, PLEASE do respond! We will be happy to share what we find! Sincerely, Rhonda Lane :)
