Hi- I was glad to get your reply. You are the first one I have found who knows about "my" O'Rears I am sorry that I don't know anything about who cam with the O'Rears.I know they came to TX by covered wagon when Ada E. was a baby. Ada Elizabeth O'Rear m. William Oscar Cobb on October 2, 1901, at the bride's home in New Baden. They moved to Childress Co. about 1908. W.O. Cobb taught school until 1914 and then was a rural mail carrier and farmer for about 30 years. They moved to Childress,TX in 1949. W.O. Cobb died in Childress in Dec. 1960, and Ada Cobb died in Austin, Tx Nov. 29,1968. Their children were: Francis Burton Cobb (1903-1960) Jesse Maurine Cobb Brown (1906-1981)my mom William Floyd Cobb (1907-1976) Robert Clark Cobb (1909-1982) Howard Woodrow Cobb (1911-1973) Bryant Cobb (1915- )Lives in Glendale,CA The following info is what I was told by Ada O'Rear. Cobb. This, of course, is based on what she was told as she grew up. Robert O'Rear's 1st wife only lived a few months after the marriage. She dropped dead one morning at the breakfast table. His second wife,Frances Burton Patrick, was b. March 26, 1854, and died in April 1883. She was buried at Wheelock near an oak tree, and her grave was marked with a stone.Frances B. had 7 sisters and 1 brother, Arch Patrick, a mechanic.Arch had 2 sons, one supposedly a dr. in Kansas City. Frances B. was the youngest child. The children of Robert and Frances were: Martha Savannah, b. Sept. 9, 1875 in TN.,d.1930 m. William Acy (Dick) Smith(1867-1958) in Henry Prarie.(They are buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Robertson Co.) William (called "Little Billy")(Patrick?) O'Rear b.April 26, 1878,d. Sept. 26, 1888 or 89 of appendicitis, buried at Wheelock. Ada Elizabeth b.April 21, 1881, d. Nov. 29, 1968 in Austin. Buried in Childress, TX You list a William Augustus O'Rear - my gmother did not list him. She had an "Uncle Gus O'Rear." I am sure he was not her brother, but maybe he was her uncle. Robert O'Rear m Victoria Brooks Bauman (b. 1-26-1852,d. 1-20-1929 at Merkel, TX.) They had a son also named Robert O'Rear b. Dec. 28,18??, d. March 1970. (I think he lived and died in Merkel,TX. He had at least two children,a son whose name I don't know and a daughter named Mary Lou.) My grandmother did not mention an Ida O'Rear. Robert O'Rear, father of Ada, died of "high blood pressure" (stroke?) at Merkel, TX in 1910 and is buried there. My grandmother was one of the fortunate ones who had a keen mind up to the minute she died, but as I am sure you realize, the stories she heard as a child about her mother's family might contain inaccuracies. I do feel, however, that the names of her brothers and sister are correct. If there is anything else I might have that would help you, please let me know. How does Donna Sarchet of Plainview fit into the family tree? Frances

I just found your posting of 1/1/01 regarding the Patrick/O'Rear families. Ada O'Rear was my grandmother(1881-1968).She married William Oscar Cobb in New Baden in 1901. They moved to Childress County @1908. My mother, Maurine Cobb Brown(1906-1981)was the 2nd of their six children and only girl. Ada's brother, William Patrick O'Rear, died about the age of ten of appendicitis.According to my grandmother, they dug his grave by what they thought was his mother's grave, but found men's buttons in the earth. Her mother's grave was evidently unmarked and had been lost. The cemetery was in Wheelock but I don't know where. My grandmother's mother, Frances Burton Patrick, died in 1883. I have a photo of her and one of her husband,Robert O'Rear and will be happy to send copies if you are interested. My grandmother did not like her stepmother. When her inheritance from her mother came, her stepmother divided it among her children from the stepmother's former marriage as well as to the chi! ldren of F. Patrick. I also have a group picture of the 3rd Mrs. O'Rear,my grandmother Ada O'Rear Cobb, and others I can send. The info you posted is a help to me because my gmother did not have too much knowledge of her mother's people. I do have her mother F B Patrick's tintype album which I treasure. Is was the only thing of her mother's that my grandmother had. I will be glad to share any other infomation that I have. Frances Duey

I just received this very exciting message and could not wait to share the news with all of you. I hope you will give this your support. Jonelle Ellis Russell <ljrussell@earthlink.net> We just got word that Senator Orrin Hatch has drafted a resolution to officially make October Family History Month. Am running the following in tomorrow's Ancestry Daily News. Feel free to share this info. Best, Juliana Juliana Smith Editor, Ancestry Daily News Ancestry.com http://www.ancestry.com Tel/Fax: 219-933-0122 editor@ancestry-inc.com ===================================================================== CALL TO ACTION FOR DECLARING OCTOBER FAMILY HISTORY MONTH ===================================================================== As most of you are probably aware, in the past several years, October has been designated Family History Month. An idea that originated with the Monmouth County Genealogical Society, has since spread into a nationwide campaign with the endorsement of the National Genealogical Society and the Federation of Genealogical Societies. In addition several states have passed official proclamations to this effect. Now we have the opportunity to make this a national event. The Ancestry Daily News has just learned that Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah is sponsoring a Family History Resolution to have October officially declared Family History Month. The resolution has been drafted and a letter has been circulated from Senator Hatchs office to all the other Senators to solicit their support to officially declare October Family History Month. This is a great opportunity for the genealogical community at large to receive national recognition for our efforts. To support the passage of this measure, we want to encourage as many people as possible to contact the Senate and urge them to support and vote for Senator Hatchs Family History Resolution. Lets remind them of the widespread interest in family history and the contribution it makes to our American heritage. Make our voices heard! My family on my mothers side is from Robertson county and I know that the Collier's owned a true general store in Mumford. My mothers cousin Sam Rice worked there for many years. I also know that the Collier house was near the store.

My family history ties into the Simmons line: (my grandparents - Beulah Starr Simmons married Adam Jackson (A. J.) Dowdy 10 Oct 1907, Robertson County). I would be glad to share info with you.
Andrew H. (Hendon) Simmons is brother to my g-gf, so I have done some Simmons family research: Andrew's parents: Asa Simmons Jr. and Martha Helen Scoggin (Scoggins) married 27 Dec 1835 in Clarke County, GA. Andrew H. married Fannie Robertson 29 Feb 1872 in Troup County, GA. There are some good sites to review for this line at the Ancestry World Tree for Ancestry.com subscribers - just do a search for Asa Simmons Jr. Also I will be establishing a Family Tree soon at Ancestry.com as soon as I finish posting my sources to my records. Get in touch with me at astonfam@yahoo.com if you would like so we can communicate without going thru this message board. Donna
