Is there anyone who is researching Walter W. Williams of this area of Texas. Walter was married to Florience Humphries and second to Ella Mae Holiday, with whom he had 12 children after the age of 46. Walter died December 17, 1959 at the age of 117. Franklin gave him a military funeral, that certainly benefited the last surviving soldier of the Civil War. He was a member of Company C, 5th Regiment, General Hood's Texas Brigade. I have been looking for information on this gentleman for quite a while. My maiden name is Williams. Kathy Clifton

Went to Pensacola had daughter Mary Magadelene, left when she was a small child, came to Texas. Lived in Calvert, Tex. lost wife, remarried, moved to Hamilton, Texas. Died there on Oct 28, 1909. As I said before,I never knew much about granddad,except what mom told me.I dont remember her saying anything about him having a sister,or any other family.But that dont mean he didnt have any-I just dont remember .She did say he said "by gum"a lot& talked about the mountains a lot-how pretty they looked. I looked up Newton Co,sensus 1850 & these grays were listed...Aranetta,Elizabeth M.,Louidia,Lyda M.,Mary Ann,Mellisa Jane,& a W.M.. No,Joan Elwell Is not my sister,she is g.grandaughter J.W.Gray,& Minnie Lee(Whitley) Gray.You& I are cousins,Joan is also cousin to us.Joan is about 40 I guess . Her moms name was Emery Fae Byrd(maiden name) .Emery Faes mom(Bleulah)was a daughter of J.W. & Minnie Gray.

She lists him in Section 6. I live about two hours from Franklin and try to visit as often as I can. Near him is my ancestor Isaac Bodine Ellison & Wife Elizabeth with a very large gravestone. Isaac was in Co. "E" Likens' 35th Texas Cavalry, CSA. I hope to visit and pressure wash their gravemarker in the Spring.
