Hello, I am trying to figure out why my Thomas J. MORRIS was assigned power of attorney by Lucy Ann SPOTSWOOD HOPKINS (2nd wife of Richard M. HOPKINS) on 28 Feb 1870. Richard M. HOPKINS was one of the earliest settlers in Red River Co. (also Miller Co) and married first Nancy CLARK, daughter of Gilbert CLARK. Since the CLARKS and HOPKINS were original Red River Co. families I am hoping that someone knows of the connection. I know that the CLARKS were from TN as was my MORRIS but I am thinking that there must be some connection to either the first family or to Lucy SPOTSWOOD.
