    1. [TXREDRIV] Death Certificates?

    3. Recently I discovered that my great-grandmother had a sister who died in Paris in 1947. Yesterday I went by the courthouse to get a copy of the death certificate. You can only get certified copies, they cost $9.00 and you have to fill out a form explaining your relationship and why you need it. I also had to show my drivers license and they wrote down the number. Has anyone gotten a death certificate in Red River County (or any other county in Texas recently)? I am wondering if this is a standard practice now. I knew there had been some changes but I didn't think anything that far back would be such a big deal. Cynthia

    3. Cynthia and others, I recently got a marriage certificate in Hall County for two dollars, and have gotten numerous copies in Red River and Eastland Counties for a dollar or so. I have had to pay for certified copies here in Potter County and also Gray County since I have been doing genealogy. It seems that it depends on the county whether they will make copies or only do certified copies, at the much increased price. 3. I know that for both death certs and marriage licenses in TX that they have gotten punitive in their charges and I believe that it may be law that death certs must be certified. When I was in TX last year I complained about a certified marriage license in Cooke Co. and was told that it was the county clerk's policy and I had no choice - this was after doing all the research myself and even getting the book to make a photostatic copy.
