Jim, I am not an expert, but I did speak with a local treasure hunter (whose name I have forgotten) about choices a few years ago, when I had the urge to hunt treasure. He wanted me to spend nearly $500, and I lost my enthusiasm. You might want to post an enquiry on the newsgroup "alt.treasure.hunting" and check on offers of second hand ones on "dfw.forsale." I would imagine that for $200 you could get a used one that really had power. I haven't explored the subject on google. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Giddens" <jimg@cox-internet.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 04, 2003 10:02 AM Subject: [TXREDRIV] question// not genealogy > Question: Is a Metal Detector that cost around $200.00 that much better than the one I have that I bought a couple of years ago for around $30 to $50. (I forget exactly). I feel the one I have is not "that" great (good), but I wonder if the more expensive one are any different. I know the ads say they are, but I wonder. I am thinking of buying one of the more expensive ones, but I would hate to wind up with the same results. > Jim Giddens > Paris, Tx > jimg@cox-internet.com > > > ==== TXREDRIV Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
Thanks John, I did not know any of them cost more than around $200.00. I wonder if they can reach a buried lost coffin? Could a cheaper one for that matter? Anyone one with info please jump in. Jim, I don't know whether even the good ones are designed to explore six feet down, even for a large metal object like a modern coffin. There used to be a lit prof at NETC College who was enthusiastic about a device that measured density well enough to find old graves, but I can't remember his name. Will try to find out. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Giddens" <jimg@cox-internet.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 04, 2003 10:33 PM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] question// not genealogy > Thanks John, I did not know any of them cost more than around $200.00.
