    3. Most of the responses I've seen posted on this list are for ancestors that are more recent than the research I do. I've been using Red River County records to help find Republic of Texas migrations into other counties in the state. I know my ancestor was there for a while (months, maybe 1-2 years) has anyone transcribed the 1836-1839 Tax Lists ? Jeri Steele

    3. Jeri, I don't know if they even still exist. If anyone knows, please let me know. There are not in the list of county records that have been microfilmed. I agree that they need to be transcribed, and if I could find them I would do it. I guess someone needs to ask at the courthouse. During this time there was a question as to whether the area was part of Arkansas or Texas, and some records were filed in Arkansas. The marriage records for this period apparently also do not exist.
